STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Concept Art Reveals A Detailed Look At The Mysterious Sith Dagger

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's Sith Dagger ended up playing a pivotal role in the movie, and some newly revealed concept art offers our best look yet at some of the finer details on the ancient weapon.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker very suddenly introduced the idea of Sith Wayfinders and a dagger which led Rey to the one belonging to Emperor Palpatine. That was hidden in the remains of the Death Star II, and if it all felt a tad convenient...well, we can't really argue with you!

Regardless, the dagger did look pretty cool, and concept artist Matthew Savage has now shared his final designs. He explains that its creation was a "collaborative process between myself, the prop master, the prop makers, the graphics team and VFXs," and goes into detail below about how its design needed to match the remains of Palpatine's destroyed weapon.

We didn't see much more of the dagger after that scene on Kef Bir, so chances are it won't be an important part of Star Wars lore moving forward (after all, it has now served its purpose).

However, we will more than likely get to see its origins explored in a future comic book or novel!

That dagger is one of the most blatantly stupid things in the movie.

I expect it was supposed to be an Indiana Jones kind of trope, but no.

@FleischerSupes - It's a ripoff of the "dubloon" straight from the Goonies:

@FleischerSupes - at least the scepter had some logic behind it. The staff had to be so long, timing correct; the instructions were a puzzle, but not convoluted. The characters also spend the first third solving this riddle.

I enjoyed ROS more than others, but the dagger was so convoluted & stupid. The design is so ugly as well.

But did you spend time on why it didn't make any sense? Like at all? How could it be ancient, but also line up with the Death Star II EXACTLY. The DSII also was completely obliterated, but somehow massive chunks ended up on Endor? This whole trilogy was a waste, and this was the worst one by far

Ah yes, the dagger than revealed the location to the Wayfinder...

but then Kylo destroyed the Wayfinder so it was all for nothing...

but then Rey found a second Wayfinder anyway so it was all for nothing x2.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - @THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - oh man, I forgot there was a second wayfinder!

I don’t mind McGuffins in stories; you need some mystical properties to a larger than life story. But, I think you only get one. Three and you’ve wandered into illegible territory. It’s so sad to see Star Wars lowered to this; I hope the next iterations take their time and develop a story.

One of the stupidest subplots in a Star Wars film. Not a single part of it made sense...

They really should've come up with a different way of tracking the location of the wayfinder. This dagger is up there with the dumbest things in the movie

Got to be honest that thing didn't have the most original design inside the Star Wars lore, but it's nice to have a closer look to the concepts behind it.
