Deadline confirms that 20th Century Studios (now part of Disney) is finally moving forward with a big screen adaptation of Mark Millar and Goran Parlov's Starlight.

Shortly after the comic was released in 2013, we learned that Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg was attached to write and produce the movie; thankfully, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story scribe Gary Whitta was later tapped to pen the screenplay.

Now, Attack the Block and The Kid Who Would Be King's Joe Cornish has been chosen to write and direct the project. Kinberg will still produce alongside Audrey Chon through his Genre Films banner, while Nira Park (a frequent collaborator of Cornish and Edgar Wright's) is also producing.

Cornish worked with Wright on his version of Ant-Man for Marvel Studios.

in Starlight, astronaut Duke McQueen finds himself transported to an alien world where he saves the planet before returning to Earth...where no one believes his story. 40 years later, his wife has died, and his kids have pretty much forgotten about their dad; it's then a young alien from that planet arrives at Duke's home and recruits him, as an old man, for one final mission to save her home.

This is a project with plenty of potential, which should come together nicely over the next few years. There are lots of great older actors out there who would be a good fit for Starlight
