Emma Stone as Frankenstein's Monster? Sort of!

The first trailer for acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos' (The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer) adaptation of Alasdair Gray's bestselling novel, Poor Things, which serves as an even more twisted retelling of Mary Shelley's classic sci-fi horror novel, will be online tomorrow, and a new promo still featuring Stone's (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Favourite) character has been released.

It sounds like this take on the story will lean more heavily into the book's Frankenstein influences, as it's described as "a Victorian tale of love, discovery and scientific daring, Poor Things tells the incredible story of Belle Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by an eccentric but brilliant scientist."

Stone plays said young woman, while Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, Jerrod Carmichael, Margaret Qualley, Suzy Bemba, Kathryn Hunter, and Wayne Brett will also star.

Check out the new still along with some previously released images below.

"From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation."

The movie has been rated R for “Strong and pervasive sexual content, graphic nudity, disturbing material, gore, and language," so this trailer should be... interesting!

Poor Things is set to hit theaters for a limited run this September.

So its not frankenstein its just a mad scientist bringing someone back to life not creating life

If frankenstein was the inspiration cool but really you can probably find other stories it resembles just as much

@dracula - The novel was greatly inspired by Shelley's original novel, and a section of it is described as "a Frankenstein and Victorian horror pastiche." May not be accurate to call it a retelling of the original story, but it's definitely an inspiration.

In the above photos Willem Defoe looks more like the the monster than Emma Stone does as his face looks disfigured. That makes the stills a little confusing, but it does have my interest due to the Emma and the rating. I love a great R rated horror movie. Hope it delivers.
