From trophy to tyrant, outcast to outlaw, loner to leader, mayor to mutineer … how will The Power transform you?

Prime Video (via SFFGazette.com) has released the first official trailer and key art for new sci-fi tinged global thriller, The Power.

The emotionally driven series from SISTER (Chernobyl) and showrunner Raelle Tucker (True Blood, Jessica Jones) is based on British author Naomi Alderman’s award-winning novel of the same name, and focuses on a group of individuals impacted by an inexplicable event which causes teenage girls to develop the ability to electrocute people at will.

Some use their destructive new powers for good, others... not so much!

The first three episodes of The Power will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Friday, March 31, with new episodes available each Friday, leading up to the season finale on May 12.

The Power is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will. The series features a cast of remarkable characters from London to Seattle, Nigeria to Eastern Europe, as the Power evolves from a tingle in teenagers’ collarbones to a complete reversal of the power balance of the world.

The series stars Toni Collette as Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez, alongside John Leguizamo as Rob Lopez, Auli’i Cravalho as Jos Cleary-Lopez, Toheeb Jimoh as Tunde Ojo, Josh Charles as Daniel Dandon, Eddie Marsan as Bernie Monke, Ria Zmitrowicz as Roxy Monke, Zrinka Cvitešić as Tatiana Moskalev, Halle Bush as Allie Montgomery, and more.

Looks okay... but I'm assuming it's better than it looks if Collete is involved.

I know it’s a positive thing that there’s more awareness now around what it’s like to be a woman and how men treat them but… I feel like every [frick]ing show or film at the moment is telling the same story. How many things have you seen recently that have a thing about a woman being told she should smile more? Yeah, it’s a dickish thing, but is it really news or the wnd of the world? Doesn’t it make it easy to identify the dicks of the world, then just move on? Men have to deal with other asshole men as well. And although we may not be as physically vulnerable sometimes, we’re more likely to have to deal with a physical altercation, threat or attack from another man. It sucks. Dealing with pricks is the worst. It’s fantastic that there’s more awareness that women deal with as much ‘toxic masculinity’ as they do. But… we get it, guys who tell you to smile more are the worst. I feel like we knew this but we’re getting belted over the head with it constantly.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was dealing with Buffy copping this shit (cat calls, objectification etc) in the 90s. She gets powerful, makes the assholess sorry they told her to smile more. We’re still on this? Assholes will always be assholes, to both other men and women. They’re not going away anytime soon. Let’s tell stories that get deeper into the issue or look at another angle of it. To be honest, overexposure of the same issue might be counterproductive because it starts to feel like whining. My sister says she was told she should smile more once in her life. She shrugged it off. Is it really auch a prevelant societal problem that the trope needs to pop up in every other film or series now?

@connorblaze - Fun Fact: As a dude I've been told to smile more many times in my life and everytime it was from a female basically saying "you have a lovely smile and should use it more". I never once felt offended lol

so a subset of incels/incel adjacent consistently complain about "gender swapping" and then say..."they should create their own stories"...and here is one of them...and so now, some of those same people come onto an article about a female centric series...from a female written book...and complain about the story...since the beginning, the majority of books, plays, movies, tv etc has ALL BEEN FROM THE STRAIGHT, WHITE MALE PERSPECTIVE...now the balance is shifting, and the little ones are getting scared and lashing out...i would totally watch this simply because john and toni are in it, because i love their work...little white boys are taught that their stories are the most important and that they themselves are the most important, leaving no room for other perspectives....and just maybe if little boys were taught that stories from a girls perspective or another races perspective are just as valid and important as ones from a boys perspective, there would be less bullcrap male nonsense getting thrown around.
