THE CREATOR: New Trailer For Gareth Edwards' Sci-Fi Epic Delivers An Action-Packed, Timely Message About AI

As a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Hollywood has come to a very sudden halt. New content will continue to be released across film and television in the weeks and months ahead, albeit without actors who can promote their work.

That's going to hurt a lot of upcoming titles, including Gareth Edwards' (Godzilla) new original sci-fi movie The Creator. If what we see in this new trailer is any indication, it will be another incredible piece of filmmaking from the director, but original stories like this struggle to attract an audience at the best of times, never mind during a period where they can't be promoted to the greatest extent possible.

Still, this action-packed sneak peek offers plenty of compelling reasons to watch The Creator in theaters on September 29. During this jaw-dropping preview, more is revealed about what promises to be a timely and hard-hitting adventure for John David Washington's Joshua and his unexpected AI companion.

Watch the new trailer for The Creator (via SFFGazette.com) below.

Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua, a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife, is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war...and mankind itself.

Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory, only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child.

The movie stars John David Washington (Tenet), Gemma Chan (Eternals), Ken Watanabe (Inception), Sturgill Simpson (Dog), newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles and Academy Award winner Allison Janney (I, Tonya).

Gareth Edwards and Chris Weitz penned The Creator's screenplay, from a story by Edwards. The filmmaker also produces alongside Kiri Hart, Jim Spencer, and Arnon Milchan. while the executive producers are Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Natalie Lehmann, Nick Meyer, and Zev Foreman.

The Creator is set to be released in theaters on September 29.

Did Disney really greenlight an original big budget sci-fi movie? If you told me this was made by Fox pre-acquisition and got shelved, I would believe you.

I'll go in theaters just because Gareth Edwards' directing and aesthetic sensibility is one of my favourite ever.

Also, I saw that this movie has a budget of only $83 millions and we need to support mid budget movies more, especially the original ones.

I'm tired of those pre-chewed $250 millions boring safe action movie.

@Usernametaken -

It's low budget because big names aren't associated with this project.

Remember that the reason budgets are so inflated is because the actors salary is included in the budget. Dial of destiny had a huge budget because Ford got paid 25 million. That's huge😑

@Usernametaken - They made this for only $83 million? How the heck are all these CBMs over 200 million and look way worse?

@Usernametaken - very true. The red tape around the massive $1/4 billion movies is insane. Unless you are Spielberg or Nolan you need approval from 30 execs to get anything done.

@AmazingFILMporg - so dial of destiny still cost $275M without Harrison?

That's just one actor. Everyone else was like 100 million💁

@grif - If rumours are true, then the budget for this movie was about the same as 2 and 1/2 episodes of Secret Invasion...
