THE CREATOR'S Final Trailer Perfectly Captures The Emotional Undertones Lying Beneath Sci-Fi Spectacle

The Creator's final trailer is equal parts tension, spectacle, and explosive action in what will certainly be one of the year's best sci-fi films.

With the release of Gareth Edwards' The Creator, epic, sci-fi cinema will be back on the menu this fall.

The captivating film's final trailer demonstrates what  John David Washington previously stated about Edwards' directorial style.

"Gareth has this ability to inject compassion in a sci-fi genre that usually leans on spectacle and danger," said the Tenet actor in a behind-the-scenes promo for the film.

The Creator hits North American theaters on September 29, check out the final trailer below.

The Creator is set in a future counterpart of our own, where AI robots have developed awareness and independence, sparking a protracted conflict with human forces. An ex-special forces agent is forced to make a difficult choice when given the option to put an end to the conflict or jeopardize his own principles.

Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Godzilla) directed the film and co-wrote the script alongside Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).  The legendary composer Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, Dunkirk) is handling the score.

"My favorite cinema is very visually driven. It's not like a play, it's like a dream, it's just a pure emotion. This film is a melting pot of movies I grew up loving. It's a Vietnam movie, mixed with robotics and sci-fi," said Edwards in a previously released behind-the-scenes look at the film.

The film was made with a small crew and filmed at 80 different locations around the globe.  This filming method, in lieu of the usual sound stage and green screen approach, allowed Edwards to make the film for a relatively tidy sum of just $86 million.

The film's SDCC panel this past July instantly catapulted it into the discussion of best sci-fi films being released this year and the promo material released since then has done nothing to dilute those high expectations. The question now is whether the film will actually meet them.

The Creator will premiere at this year's Fantastic Fest in Texas on September 26 so expect the verdict on Edwards' Rogue One follow-up to leak out just before its domestic release on the 29th.

The cast includes John David Washington as Caleb, Gemma Chan as Ava, Ken Watanabe as Professor Seki, Sturgill Simpson as The Musician, Madeleine Yuna Voyles as Young Ava, and Allison Janney as Dr. Ellen Shaw.

Amid a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua, a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife, is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war—and mankind itself.

This movie looks incredible. And it's release is already pretty close. Though it was supposed to be released later. Not that it matters though, I'll definitely watch it on the big screen either way

@bkmeijer1 - it looks generic IMO but who knows maybe I'm out of touch

@McMurdo - it has a look that has become more common over the last few years, but I woulnd't classify it as generic just yet. Nevertheless I think it's a great look

@bkmeijer1 - This looks like your generic sci fi dystopia that we've done dozens of times before.
Blade Runner, Children of Men, A.I., etc have all covered this territory and Edwards is a pretty average director at best imo.

I love dystopian sci fiction, but I haven't seen a good one in years (Children of Men is the last one that I thought was pretty amazing) so, hope this is good, but based on the trailer; the director and the screenwriter, my hopes aren't too high.

@Feralwookiee - it feels kinda different from those that you mention. Mostly on story. It's look is very similar to Blade Runner 2049 though.

My main worry with this is that it's yet another ''adult guy has to bring the girl to a safe location'' story though. That's really generic nowadays

@AllsGood - you're such a shill for Disney lol they had nothing to do with this, it's like Touchstone or New Line

@AllsGood - It’s good that you mentioned that it’s from Disney’s 20th Century Fox. Some might confuse this movie with the other movie called
The Creator.

@bobevanz - Why does the Trailer say 20th Century Fox? The Walt Disney Company has “set a $52.4 billion, all-stock deal to acquire 20th Century Fox and other entertainment and sports assets from Rupert Murdoch ’s empire.” Disney chairman-CEO Bob Iger has extended his contract to the end of 2021 to oversee the transition.

@AllsGood - It's actually now called 20th Century Studios They now omit the "Fox" . Disney just keeps it separate as a way to release things that aren't in the Disney, family friendly mold. They did the same thing for decades with touchstone and Hollywood banners.

@bobevanz - I totally hope this guy owns a ton of Disney stock or is on the payroll, otherwise, it's just kinda sad.

Too bad it's disney, but I have to go see this in theaters. Finally a movie that isn't an adaptation, sequel, prequel, remake, reboot, gender swapped, race swapped cash grab.

Just an original movie, and John David Washington is a damn good actor.

What possibly makes you think he is "a damn good actor" ? His previous work shows him to be barely average at best.

@DocSpock - Saw him in Tenet, Ballers, Amsterdam and Blackklansman, I have no complaints about his acting style.
He might not be the best out there, he still needs to take risk to develop his range.

But I stand by what I said, he's a damn good actor.

@DocSpock - I agree with you about the lead, but I have only seen him in tenet. Thought he was terrible in it. But others seem to think he is good in other movies so I am hoping he is good in this one because it does look like a great film.

I hope it is good too because it looks very interesting. Because he is Denzel's son and particularly because he is black, a lot of people, many on this site, promote him to "amazing". He isn't.
