20th Century Fox has just debuted what's being referred to as the first clip (it's really more a montage of scenes) from War for The Planet of the Apes, and it features Caesar's (Andy Serkis) first encounter with a mute little girl who comes to be known as Nova.

Fans of the original Planet of The Apes movies will no doubt recognize the name, but the character's role in this film has yet to be specified. That said, the studio's blurb accompanying this vid does provide some hints:

"As the war between apes and humans intensifies, Caesar discovers that Nova is more important than he realized and the future of the planet is in his grasp."

War for The Planet of the Apes is set for release on July 14.

In ‘War for the Planet of the Apes,’ the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

In the original Planet of the Apes the humans have digressed and no longer have the ability to speak. Probably a shot in the dark, but maybe Nova is representative of that beginning regression by being mute.

It's crazy how this movie isn't generating buzz. The previous two are very good and successful, but general audiences don't seem very interested in this one.
