SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Wins Golden Tomato Award For Being 2021's Best-Reviewed Movie

Rotten Tomatoes collects the opinions of hundreds of critics, and Spider-Man: No Way Home has now been named the best-reviewed film of 2021. Surely that means it's heading for a "Best Picture" nomination?

Spider-Man: No Way Home has just won three huge awards in this year's Golden Tomato Awards. As you can see below, Rotten Tomatoes has announced that the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios blockbuster has won "Best-Reviewed Movie of the Year," "Best-Reviewed Wide Release of the Year," and "Best-Reviewed Comic Book Movie of the Year."

In the "Best-Reviewed Movie of the Year" category, Spider-Man: No Way Home topped In the HeightsSummer of Soul, Pig, The Power of the Dog, Coda, Raya and the Last Dragon, West Side Story, A Quiet Place Part II, and The Mitchells vs. The Machine

At least a few of those films are likely to be nominated for "Best Picture" at this year's Oscars, so if Spider-Man: No Way Home is snubbed by the Academy, there's something really wrong there. For starters, it shows a real disconnect between voters and both critics and moviegoers, and proves that comic book movies are looked down on by the awards ceremony.

We'll see what happens, but something tells us these won't be the last awards won by the threequel at the non-prestigious award shows. Love or hate Rotten Tomatoes, being named the best-reviewed movie of the year is not to be sniffed at and shows how beloved the wall-crawler's latest adventure is.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters.

Let’s hope this is where the awards conversation ends. It’s a great movie, but an awards contender it is absolutely not

@Cap1 - People always say that it's the big movies that get ignored in the awards circuit, but honestly I feel like it's the really small stuff that's always left out. Like I feel like NWH is still more likely to score nominations than something like Cmon Cmon or Red Rocket

@tmp3 - both of them would be worthy BP winners in my eyes, especially Red Rocket. Green Knight and Drive My Car likely to be left out too which is a real shame. Still not over the Uncut Gems omission myself

@Cap1 - why even care about awards🤷🏻‍♂️ the box office and praise from the people should only matter

@OptimusCrime - tell that to Pascal n Feige. Ruling cinema and knocking more independent ideas out of screens clearly isn’t enough for them

@Cap1 - I don't really care about comic book movies and major awards. The fact that Black Panther is the only MCU film nominated for the Best Picture Oscar is ridiculous. I liked Black Panther, but it was definitely not the best MCU film at the time of its release or since.

@JermareCBM - it’s not ridiculous at all. Endgame or Infinity War, sure, I can see those being nominated, but no other MCU film before or after then has been worthy. Black Panther being nominated is wild in general cos it’s not that good

Best CBM by far in an otherwise lackluster year for the genre

@tmp3 - 2nd best considering we got ZSJL but that movie was much more than just a CBM so i will let this slide.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - Hoping this year is better with The Batman and Spider-Verse

@tmp3 - Agreed. I’m trying to think of some other notable releases this year and I only think of The Suicide Squad (which really didn’t do it for me). Fingers crossed The Batman doesn’t get delayed because I’m not nearly as excited for anything else

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I thought TSS, ZSJL and Shang Chi were just... fine. Didn't see Widow or Eternals, and Venom was... Venom. The D+ stuff I saw also didn't do it for me, but Moon Knight looks like it could be good

@tmp3 - Oh yeah. That’s what else was this year lol. TSS and ZSJL was more DC mishmash and i’m particularly tired of James Gunn’s style at this point. Went into Widow with no expectationa and was pleasantly surprised, I enjoyed it. Shang-Chi was ok, still played things so safe for a typical MCU origin. D+ I agree, they’re all feeling the same with a lot of buildup but too short and none have really stuck the landing in the end. Venom 2 was shit lol.

Going to watch the apartment fight scene with Norman vs Peter on loop when this is out on blu ray. Cannot be overstated how awesome Willem Dafoe was and how he established himself as the MCU’s Green Goblin with such little screen time.

MARVEL RULES😎

billnye69 - 1/12/2022, 4:28 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - Marvel itself is a failure based on it's bankruptcy and that Disney is still trying to recover Marvel properties after they started to get sold off to keep the company going years ago.

Marvel couldn't do anything to help itself until Disney and Feige came into the picture. How exactly does Marvel Rule anything?

More like Disney and Feige rule.

@AmazingFILMporg - Don't forget Sony!

Not sure this movie would be so successful without the beloved Sony Spider-verse characters: Garfield, Maguire, Molina, Dafoe, etc.

If Marvel had been able to buy Spidey from Sony a couple years ago, this movie might not exist.
