RUMOR MILL: Sony Pictures Might Be Eyeing Some Huge Names For Black Cat And Spider-Gwen Roles

We have two big rumours to share with you today, and if there's so much as a grain of truth to them, we could see a couple of big name stars playing Spider-Gwen and Black Cat in Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

In "Rumor Mill," we share the hard to buy rumours that don't come from reliable sources like the trades, but are still more believable (just) than what you might find on Reddit.

Over the holiday weekend, Giant Freakin Robot ran a report claiming that The Queen's Gambit and The New Mutants star Anya Taylor-Joy is being eyed for the role of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The site has had some lucky guesses in the past, but isn't exactly the most reliable of sources for news.

However, adding some believability to this report is Reddit leaker @MyTimeToShineH, who has since claimed that there is truth to the story. That doesn't mean we buy it, of course, but there's no denying that Taylor-Joy would be a perfect choice to bring the cat burglar to life on screen. It's thought that Sony is developing a solo movie for Black Cat after the Silver Sable team-up, Silver & Black, fell apart. Most fans, however, would rather see Felicia cross paths with Tom Holland's Peter Parker.

Another hard to believe claim from the Christmas period is that Sony is hoping Emma Stone will play a live-action Spider-Gwen for them. Once again backed up by the leaker who revealed so many details about Spider-Man: No Way Home, we're definitely struggling to buy this one as legitimate.

Why? Well, Spider-Gwen is a teenager in the comic books and Stone - who did a superb job playing Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man movie - is currently 33-years-old.

As always, we'll see what happens, but it's best not to get too excited about these rumours just yet.
