THE AMAZING
SPIDER-MAN
ISSUE 015
In this epic conclusion to the most extravagant story arc in the whole of Spider-Man history (at least in terms of characters) we are shown what actually happened to our dearest Otto Octavius in issue #19 of The Superior Spider-Man where he was thought to have been blown to smithereens, but not really. I'll get to that later, for now I will talk about the emotional and very well done series of goodbyes as each of the Spider-Totems return to their own realities, more specifically Spider-Girl (May Day Parker)s return to the Marvel2 Universe. It is quickly revealed that MJ and May's boyfriend did not die in the fire, but sadly Peter did. Then there is a nice milestone moment where May takes on the Mantel of Spider-Woman and dons her fathers old Spider-Man suit. I really do hope that the old Marvel 2 Spider-Girl issues gain some value from this...
First Page, Second Page & Third Page
We say a final farewell to Spider-Ham and the other main Spider-Totems, and just as Miguel is about to be send back to 2099, all of the remaining totems Spider-Senses go haywire, Octavius has lost the plot and starts to destroy the great web, all because he can't accept his fate of failure. Jeez you'd have thought that by now Octavius would have realised that Peter will always be the better Spider-Man, I mean for God's sake Peter led the Spider-Totems to victory!
Fourth Page & Fifth Page
This triggers a reaction which we saw all the way back when Otto Octavius first took over Peters body where a Jane Doe wakes up fro ma coma, and has now been identified as Julia Carpenter, the new Madame Web. But that isn't the only drama, portals start to close so the remaining Spider-Totems hurry back to their worlds, leaving all of those who belong to the 616 Universe to deal with Otto.
Sixth Page
During the small fight between Otto and the other Spiders a very unexpected plot twist occurs...the great Weaver is a pastor future version of Karn...what the heck. Now this is some weird time travel paradox nonsense...but I love it. Though I am slightly confused as to ho Karn can suddenly take his helmet off. Karn opens up the chase of the Weavers body with his weapon, and SpOck is defeated once and for all..though the Anna Maria AI goes to sleep for 100 days and counting...does this mean that Otto may return one day soon? I mean his Body was never found...Karn takes the weavers place and sets to work repairing the great web of life and destiny.
Seventh Page, Eighth Page & Ninth Page
Now we have caught up with my opening statement, Octavius is back in issue 19 with no recollection of the events of Spider-Verse. With all danger averted Karn starts to spin portals home for the remaining Spiders, but as is the British luck Billy Braddock's universe, Spider-UK, no longer exists...well isn't that just typical..could this link in with secret wars somehow? We are also shown the Inheritors living inside the nuclear bunker living off of those mutant spiders.
Tenth Page, Eleventh Page and Thirteenth Page
Spider-UK, and Jessica Drew's apprentice decide to stay with Karn and become the Warriors of the Great Web...I could see that being a successful comicbook series? a Brit and a Teen fighting thorough realities doing good? Just as All of the totems leave to their respective homes, it seems that Kaine is not as dead as we had all thought...well that's a surprise...
Thirteenth Page & Fourteenth Page
Cindy and Peter are finally back in good O'l New York of Earth-616, and for the first time in a long time all seems well, Peter is stopping crime and is feeling positive about his own future.
Fifteenth Page
My Overall View
Well I thought that this issue was a nice short and sweet conclusion to Spider-Verse, though if I am honest it just s#feels like this issue was all of the small teasers and loose ends that they did not have enough time to tie off in the previous issue. In terms of plot I thought it was excellent if not a little bit predictable, and in terms of artwork it was outstanding as always. I really do love the way Spider-Man is being drawn these days. So overall I say this issue was a strong 9/10 just because it concluded this story arc.
