A few weeks ago, Sony Pictures Television chairman Mike Hopkins released an statement that Sony Pictures is developing not only Spider-Man films within the next 7-8 years, but television series based on Spider-Man characters. In 2009, Sony sold all television rights to Spider-Man and associated characters to Marvel, which resulted in the cancellation of The Spectacular Spider-Man. Some are left to wonder if Marvel gave some of those rights back or perhaps they're expanding their partership on Spider-Man in the MCU to TV series as well, making them set in that universe as well.
"We're developing a lot of Marvel-related content, and I think we'll be out in the market very soon with something really, really big and transformational for us, because we've not done any shows with Marvel before, with Marvel IP. So that's a big piece of development that we're onto... I think we aspire to have several shows in a universe that we create that can pollinate between each other, and to working with a partner to make that happen"
When the studio rebooted Spider-Man with Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man films, they had big dreams of creating a shared universe of Spider-Man characters. One of those projects include a Sinister Six film that was heavily set-up by the Amazing Spider-Man 2. But the film was a box office disappointment and Sony's original plans for a Spider-Man cinematic universe fizzled out, resulting in them making a deal with Marvel Studios to introduce Spider-Man into the MCU in 2015.
Hopkins also hinted that the door is open to other networks and that a official announcement should come within the several few months. Depending on the success of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are almost guaranteed to renew their contract to include Spider-Man in the MCU. If I worked at Marvel, Here''s how I would develop these Marvel-Sony series.
Disney Plus/Marvel Studios's Spider-Man: After the events of Far From Home, Peter Parker(Tom Holland) must juggle high school and superheroics all while facing super-villains such as Venom(Alexander Calvert), Doctor Octopus(Mark Hamill) and Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin(Matthew McConughey)
Marvel's Venom: After the events of Marvel Studios's Spider-Man: Season One, Eddie Brock(Alexander Calvert) is imprisoned at in Ravencroft Institute, having gone insane after losing the symbiote in his last fight with Spider-Man. But when Cletus Kasady(Cameron Monaghan) bonds with a much dangerous symbiote, transforming him into Carnage, Brock is forced to escape Ravencroft and find the Venom symbiote, so he can stop Kasady from unleashing spores of symbiotes on New York City.
Marvel's Black Cat: Felica Hardy(Abigail Breslin) is a college freshman at Empire State University. But when she is raped by her boyfriend Ryan, she trains her body in various fighting styles and acrobatics and sets out to kill her rapist. But Ryan is killed in a drunk driving accident. Furious at losing her chance for revenge, Hardy decides to use her new skills to follow in her father's footsteps by becoming a cat burgler, amassing a fortune in stolen items.
Marvel's Spider-Woman: When Jessica Drew(Daisy Ridley) is injected with a experimental serum based on irradiated Spider's blood by her father in 1931 and placed in a genetic accelerator, she awakes with no memory of her past after decades in stasis. After being captured by the remains of HYDRA, she becomes a HYDRA agent under the codename Archne. One of HYDRA's top agents, Jared is assigned to train her in combat and espionage. Once Jessica becomes his lover, he allows himself to be captured by former S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury(Samuel L. Jackson) so she can assassinate him. But when she realises HYDRA's true nature by sparing Fury's life, she quits HYDRA and decides to use her powers for good.
Marvel's Silver Sable: After her father's death, Silver Sable(Tracy Spirdiakos) becomes the leader of the Wild Pack, a team formed by Ernst to apprehead international criminals. But when ex-CIA agent Jason Macendale becomes the Jack O' Lantern(Neil Patrick Harris), she and the Wild Pack work with the South African government to neutrailse him and put an end to his killing spree.
Marvel's Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends: Spider-Man(Tom Holland), Venom(Alexander Calvert), Spider-Woman(Daisy Ridley), Black Cat(Abigail Baslin) and Silver Sable(Tracy Spirdiakos) all team-up to stop The Spider-Slayers led by Alistair Smythe(Elijah Wood) from destroying New York City after his father Spencer Smythe(Jonathan Pryce) dies from the poisoning of the radioactive blood used in the Slayers that turned Peter Parker into Spider-Man.
What do you think of these TV series?
