Recently, we've been hearing rumblings that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and/or Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will feature some huge cameo appearances.
That's probably to be expected with movies like these, but it was said Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield are among those being eyed for roles in the upcoming animated sequels. That's incredibly exciting, and could mean the trio will reunite before what many fans expect to be another live-action team-up for the Spider-Men in 2026's Avengers: Secret Wars.
Rumour has it Holland came close to lending his voice to 2018's Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, only for the brakes to be put on that in order to save the actor for something bigger down the line.
Talking to Empire (via The Direct), franchise producer Christopher Miller was asked about the possibility of the British actor showing up as his Spider-Man Variant. The filmmaker played coy, responding: "Let’s say...Anything is possible in the multiverse."
Well, that sounds promising, eh?
Ultimately, Holland could have little more than a few lines in one of these movies or a full-blown supporting role. Either way, it's unlikely to have too much of an impact on his live-action adventures in the MCU, so we're sure Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios could come to an agreement about how best to add the web-slinger to this animated series of movies.
In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, "Miles Morales returns for an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered."
In terms of who we know will appear, the cast includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Shea Whigham, Jorma Taccone, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Brian Tyree Henry.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.
