On Whether He Wants To Do A Movie Like Spider-Man To Reach A Bigger Audience:

"That's a byproduct maybe. But it's not something that comes into my thought process. I want my life to be my life, and I want my work to be my work. I don't want to identify one with the other. What's important is life comes first. My family comes first, and my friends, and my happiness comes first. It just so happens I get happiness out of working hard. I get happiness out of working on something hard. The idea of fame isn't something that interests me, the idea of celebrity isn't something that interests me."

On Whether He's Worried About Having To Answer Spider-Man Related Questions For "The Next 10 Years":

"You just put that in my head! No, I haven't really given it that much thought. As I was saying, I'm going to approach it like I approach any other role. I'm just going to work as much as I can, because it's been such an important symbol to me since I was four years old. It's meant so much to me, and it's given me so much hope as a skinny little streak of piss, who feels more powerful inside than he looks on the outside. Every skinny boy's dream. I'm very lucky."

On Where The Movie Will Take It's Influences And The Tone We Can Expect:

"What's wonderful about Spider-Man is it's no one's and it's everyone's. It means so much to so many people. It's mythology and a legacy. There is no definitive version. You look back at the Dick Cook Stan Lee comics to the Ultimates and the Incredibles and the Amazings, then you go to the original cartoon series in the 70s and how that translated to the one in the 90s that Avi Arad was involved in, it's constantly shifting and reflecting the time and being as relevant and topical as it can be. I think it's going to shift again. I don't know in what way, but it's going to be defined by where we are as a society, and hopefully people are going to enjoy it, because I think we're going to enjoy making it."

On Whether He's Met Stan Lee Yet:

No, I haven't. That's going to be very cool though."

Spider-Man is set to swing his way into theatres in 3D on July 3, 2012!

deadpool72: Thanks bud and I agree! I'm ok with them taking some elements from it but things like how the villains look (Green Goblin and Electro look dreadful in the Ultimate Universe) and the supporting cast (Kong!?!) are a big NO for me. They need to be looking at the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko run to get the right tone for this movie IMO.

This reboot has a lot of potential. The first two of the original trilogy were good, but I think Toby never really captured either Spider-Man nor Peter. Maybe it was ok to portray him insecure and geeky in the first one, but by the second one his character should have grown onto the smart ass Spidey we all love and into a more confident version of Peter. And the emo dance from the 3rd one doesn't counts as character development.

Nice find Josh.
I agree with deadpool72 and LEEE
This movie should be done with Andrew Garfield doing a voice over so that we can hear Spidey's thoughts.
Also, lots and lots of quips.

I think that this reboot has a lot of potential to make up for the mistakes of the first three. There's no doubt that the first two movies from Raimi were excellent (apart from some dodgy "Power Rangers" type fight scenes with that awfully outfitted Green Goblin in the first one) but now that the comics have firmly established that Peter and MJ are over, we'll hopefully see Gwen as the main love interest and a much better supporting cast of characters than just those two with all that they/wont they crap. If I've got to put up with another Peter Parker who is scared to hook up with her in case she gets hurt I'll scream...bring on the wisecracking Spidey we all know and love with a lighter tone and a great villain like Electro or Scorpion! :D

6of13: I [frick]ing love that idea!!! Spider-Man's inner monologue has always been one of the best parts of his comic books (especially during the JMS run) and it'd be fantastic to see something like that in the movie!

Imaginaryfriend - my thoughts exactly! Toby was good but he never grew! He was exactly the same person from the opening of the first movie, right through to the closing of the third! The guys gone from highschool nerd to jobseeking man with superpowers for christs sake!

I think Garfield is an excellent choice for Spidey and I like how he's so natural in an interview, doesn't beat around the bush or anything. I think we don't really have to worry about the Ultimate Spidey thing anymore, considering they went with Garfield whos a bit older than the Ultimate version, I think we'll most likley get something similar to the awesome, but short lived MTV show, where he's in college and stuff.

Excellent choice for the role. I doubt they are going to use one source of inspiration and use it as their only example of source material. They will probably take elements from all the sources and combine them, which is what they should do IMO. Ultimate Spidey has the great balance of Peter's human struggles with the villain fighting along with the funny wise-cracks that have been missing, 616 Spidey has the great villains and their designs, the Spectacular Spider-Man 'toon had the great supporting cast of characters like Gwen, Harry, etc., and the list goes on.

This movie has a lot of potential, and so far we have a promising director with a great film under his belt which is similar to Peter Parker's story as a character, and an awesome choice for the title character. It will be very interesting to see where things go from here.

Why aren't they filming and after all this time I still don't know why they are doing a reboot instead of a 4th Spider-Man

Thanks Josh@! Sinister 6 would be like hitting a 6 out of the cricket ground! Or 6 sixes.
Hershell Gibbs' 6 sixes in one over...

Ryden: IMO, the college is def the way to go. I think it will have a wider appeal than placing him in high school for most of the movie. But, that is just my opinion.

@ leee777

they could do the origin in the opening credits,we don't need half an hour taken up with origin.

@ joshw

i agree make a quadrilogy that leads into sinister six.

two villains in each movie, all six in the fourth.

Just because Marc Webb likes Ultimate Spider-Man doesnt mean the movie is going to be based on the Ultimate version. Its probably going to have some elements from the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, but it should be based on the classic too. Like The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Last I heard was that they were still going with high school. At least, that's what THR said in their article about the love interest candidates. I'm not bothered either way, high school or college. I'd slightly prefer college because Garfield looks more like a college student, but high school doesn't bother me either.

I had seen this guy's acting and knew he could do a great job as Peter and Spidey, but you know it is even better hearing about how he really grew up with the character and seems to have a genuine love for Spider-Man. I am really digging this guy now. He seems like a fan getting to do the ultimate fan experience; to BE the Superhero. His level of excitment is contagious. Even LEEE said the film might be "half good." I think hell just froze over, but LEEE I am proud of you buddy. Embrace the new era. Change is good.
