Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Wouldn't Rule Out A SPIDER-MAN/VENOM Crossover In The MCU

Kevin Feige has made it clear that nothing, including a Spider-Man/Venom crossover, is off the table when it comes to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and opens up on Marvel's deal with Sony.

A couple of years ago, we were all put through the wringer when it looked like Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios had parted ways and would no longer share the cinematic rights to Spider-Man. Fans weren't happy with the prospect of the web-slinger being handled solely by Sony, and the outcry online was so vocal that a new deal was eventually struck between the two parties.

As a result, Spider-Man: No Way Home was developed by both studios, while Tom Holland's Peter Parker will also make at least one more appearance in an upcoming Marvel Studios project.

Talking to Rotten Tomatoes, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige admitted that "it was an emotional few months for, I think, all of us on all sides," referring to when it looked like Spidey would leave the MCU. "Luckily, Tom Rothman, and [then-Disney CEO] Bob Iger, and [Disney Studios Chairman] Alan Horn, and [then-Walt Disney Studios President] Alan Bergman, and Tom Holland all realized, 'Wouldn't it just be more fun if we just kept doing it? Let's not get business or politics in the way.'"

"Because the deal always started with Amy Pascal and I having nothing to do with numbers, or contracts, or politics. It had to do with story, and a love of Spider-Man and Peter Parker and the Marvel universe. It thankfully has continued like that, and that's where we find ourselves now."

In the same interview, Feige was asked about the possibility of Venom crossing over with the MCU's Spider-Man. Despite the mixed response to the former's 2018 movie, that's something fans desperately want to see become a reality, and it is thought that Sony has plans for Holland's Peter Parker in the SPUMC (meaning he could swing between worlds or portray two versions of the same character).

"I obviously don't want to talk about rumors or speculation on what could happen or what couldn't happen as it relates to any characters Marvel Studios hasn't brought to the screen yet," he teased. "But I will say what I've always said, having been at Marvel for 20 years I wouldn't dismiss anything, I wouldn't rule anything out. When and how and where remains to be seen. It could be, you know any rumor you read online could happen anytime between now and never."

Spider-Man: No Way Home promises to better establish the web-slinger's place in the MCU and beyond, though we're obviously still waiting for a first look at the highly anticipated threequel.

But when I said that all signs currently point to Venom-verse and MCU becoming one..

@RageDriver2401 - they already screwed it up. What's the point of them meeting now? The symbiote has no relationship with Peter.

@Makiveli21 - Exactly. There's no point to it. Spider-Man would just be another enemy in their eyes.

RageDriver2401 - 7/13/2021, 8:03 AM
@Makiveli21 - I'm sure they can find a way for Eddie to lose the symbiote to Peter and later Peter giving up the symbiote, only for the symbiote to feel betrayed and join forces with Eddie to go after Peter.

It would require a competent writer/director team that doesn't necessarily want to make a comedy movie like the MCU Spidey movies so far but it's doable.

@RageDriver2401 - The MCU will never be a subset of a property owned/licensed by Sony. That's too much of a power play to give to them.

@RageDriver2401 - This is more along the lines of a non-answer. It's still highly unlikely they crossover.

@RageDriver2401 - Still doesn't seem like it's gonna happen based on what Feige says. It's politics and being smart from him to not disrespect partners in a different company.

@RageDriver2401 - Denial? I'm just telling you the reality of the situation. Sony already clarified that Morbius is not in the MCU. And Venom created a whole origin story without Spider-Man. If anyone is in denial it's you.

@RageDriver2401 - I'm not the one gonna be angry. Lol. You're setting up your expectations not to be met.

@CorndogBurglar - like RageDriver2401 stated, it's up to the writing. See, they can write whatever they want. It doesn't have to be just like the comics.

LSHF - 7/13/2021, 9:35 AM
@Tonic24k - I read RageDriver2401's comments, and I see no sign of him having "expectations".

Yes, setting up expectations that won't get met is not the best of ideas (if your goal is to enjoy these films, for example).

But, again, I didn't read anything about expectations from him.

@RageDriver2401 - Morning coffee here, I still feel like its possible. We could still potentially get a Sin-Eater type of situation where Eddie now loses any type of employment because of a [frick] up+Spidey, Venom ditches Eddie joins Parker, Venom realizes how much stronger being with Spidey is, Parker ditches the symbiote, Venom doesn't want to lose that power being with Spidey and blah blah blah rejoins Eddie and now we have a more accurate Venom.

I mean its not ideal but it definitely is in the realm of possibility just need a good writer to pull it together

Tonic24k - 7/13/2021, 10:52 AM
@LSHF - The expectation is that the Sony-verse and MCU will crossover. You really didn't gather that?
SethBullock
SethBullock - 7/13/2021, 1:14 PM
@CorndogBurglar - Venom/Eddie Brock variant played by Hardy, the stuff in the other Sony movies is set in a different timeline, in the main timeline Peter gets the symbiote first in a Secret Wars movie, Eddie becomes a villainish Venom later, closer to what we saw in the comics.
LSHF
LSHF - 7/13/2021, 6:48 PM
@Tonic24k - I gathered him being "hopeful", which is NOT the same as expecting. You are "assuming" he was expecting.

Did you not gather that?
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 7/16/2021, 1:25 PM
@LSHF - It definitely reads more like expectations. I assumed nothing, only remarked on what he seemed to be confident in actually happening.

@TheUnworthyThor - i would be up for it if it were a DC crossover... put Deadpool in their to represent the MCU and i am good with it... leave out the rest of the MCU. Venom and Deadpool vs DC.

Deadpool kills the DCCU.
