SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME - Kevin Feige Weighs In On The "Secrecy" Surrounding The Trailer

We still haven't had any official updates on the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, but in a new interview, Kevin Feige confirmed that the promotional campaign will kick off... before the movie is released.

We recently reported on a rumor that the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home may be set to debut at CinemaCon next week, but that's yet to be confirmed, and we've had no official updates on the movie for quite some time.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is currently doing the rounds to promote Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and was subjected to the inevitable bombardment of questions regarding the elusive first look at the Spidey threequel. While he didn't make any major announcements, Feige did weigh in on the perceived "secrecy" surrounding the film and its first teaser.

"Honestly, I've seen the fervor online. It has not necessarily occurred to me that it is any more or less secret than any of our other projects," Feige tells Cinemablend. "I think all of our projects… we want to preserve surprises. That's all the secrecy is for."

That's fair enough, but No Way Home is set to hit theaters in less than four month's time, so it is slightly out of the ordinary that we haven't seen so much as a teaser. Still, rest assured folks, that trailer is coming, and ComicBook.com has managed to secure a massive exclusive.

Feige has confirmed to them - are you sitting down? - that the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home will debut... before the movie is released!

In all seriousness, Feige did appear to confirm that the threequel is sticking with its December 17 release date, so that's something.

While specific plot details are still under wraps, we do know that Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature Spider-Man 2 actor Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, and TASM 2's Jamie Foxx as Electro, along with returning cast members Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori and Marisa Tomei. Benedict Cumberbatch will also appear as Doctor Strange.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield (among others) are expected to return as their respective takes on Spidey, but that's yet to be made official.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - Well, after the shit stain that is current trend of the trailer announcement immediately before the trailer, having the trailer immediately before the movie is the next logic step 🤷🏻‍♂️ 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Really, Kev? Because I'm pretty sure we know more about projects that come out after No Way Home than we do about No Way Home.

Don’t be fooled, guys, we’re getting the trailer after the film’s released.

@Cap1 - that'd be the ultimate troll move for a studio to do. But then again, Cloverfield paradox released their trailer right when the movie released, so you never know anymore.

@Origame - at this point the hype of no trailer is about as big as the hype from a trailer lol

Surprises are cool. IGN straight up spoiled a Shang-Chi cameo in one of their headlines which is highly annoying.

I think there's two parts to the trailer delay.

1:They might want to pair it with Shang-chi exclusively in theaters to drive ticket sales and incentivize going to the theater instead of waiting for streaming
2:The unfortunate possibility that depending on if the current surge continues its upward trend they will delay the release of the movie.

I really dont think its to preserve surprises as theres been a ton of leaks at this point

Origame
Origame - 8/19/2021, 4:22 PM
@Ha1frican - it's almost definitely the second. No way is the trailer gonna be used to get people into theaters.
Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 8/19/2021, 4:50 PM
@Origame - I think its possible, its not exactly that far of a leap from what often happens where theres versions of trailers or even entire previews exclusive to theaters. Christopher Nolan does it often and I think Jurassic World did it just recently
Origame
Origame - 8/19/2021, 5:23 PM
@Ha1frican - yeah, but they aren't gonna do that if there isn't a trailer already out for the public this close to release.

Kevin is funny. He knows damn well there’s a cult following regarding this specific movies trailer lol. No one was clamoring for a Shang Chi or Eternals trailer. The online fervor regarding this trailer is borderline Endgame-esque

I guess this movie may contain some pretty critical plot points for the MCU moving forward so I don't see the problem with Marvel playing things close to the chest leading up to it's release.

People are going to see this movie anyway so it's not like they need to go hard on promotion to sell it to audiences.

I’m guessing its gonna be with or just post shang chi… if they havent officially delayed it yet they are still working with the hopes it could make november. They just dont want to push marketing into the full swing before theyre sure about covid delays.

Did they push up the release? My math has it a couple days shy of 4 months, not less than 3.
