Miles Morales Braves A Whole New Universe in SPIDER-MAN #1!

New York, NY—June 22nd, 2015— He’s the wallcrawler that made pop culture history and took the Ultimate Universe by storm. Now he’s ready to make history again, as he finds a new home in a completely new universe. Welcome to the Marvel Universe Miles Morales – hope you survive the experience! Today, Marvel is pleased to announce SPIDER-MAN #1 – a brand-new ongoing series starring Miles Morales coming later this year. Comic superstars and Miles Morales co-creators Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli begin the story that will have the whole world talking!

“Four years ago, we peeled back Spider-Man’s iconic mask to reveal a new and different face, and readers of all stripes have embraced him,” says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. “I’m excited to announce that Miles Morales is here to stay – and this Fall, he’s going to be swinging through the heart of the Marvel Universe. Can new friends and enemies be far behind?”

A stranger in a strange land, Miles patrols the rooftops of a New York City that is very different from the one he knew. A world where countless heroes guard it’s skies and streets. A world where Miles is counted among the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers. A world where Peter Parker is still alive. Though their paths have crossed before the landmark series Spider-Men, with Miles now living in Peter’s universe – is this town big enough for two Spider-Men? More importantly – how did Miles come to be here in the first place?!

“This is a very big deal to [Sarah and I],” says Brian Michael Bendis in an interview with Marvel.com. “For [Miles] to have grown up and flat-out earned his place in the Marvel Universe, as Spider-Man, is frankly so much more than we could have hoped for when we first sat down to design him and his life. When it became clear that I was going to follow Miles into this new adventure I was really hoping that Sara would see the value in it being both of us that do this together. I was thrilled that she agreed immediately.”

Critically lauded for his resonant and relevant introduction, Miles Morales made headlines the world over with his explosive introduction in 2011. Now, the chart-topping team of Bendis & Pichelli begin the epic next chapter of Miles Morales’ life is about to begin. Where will you be when he makes his thunderous arrival into our universe?

Swing into action with Miles Morales, the Marvel Universe’s newest amazing, spectacular, sensational, friendly neighborhood wallcrawler later this year with SPIDER-MAN #1

I feel everybody knew Bendis would keep writing Miles. Now that the 616 universe is destroyed, how will we know what happened to the Miles of 616?

Either way Marvel, just please tell me if you guys are replacing Slott on Peter. Him and Ramos are terrible writers and artists. Well Ramos can be good at times but his style isn't.

Get Charlie Soule, Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Mark Waid, Rick Remender, or Jeff Lemire to write Spidey

And get Paolo Rivera for the art.

I'm cool with this, I've read one issue of Miles and liked him, I'd love to finish reading Pete's arc in the Ultimate series before reading Miles' run than jumping into this...
Marvel please PLEASE add the rest of Pete's Ultimate story to Comixology!

As far as I can tell the "all new" marvel universe is just 616 with Miles and Old Man Logan thrown in.

If Peter Parker is still around... He is Spider-Man. Just like there is silk, spider-Gwen (which still makes no sense to me since people don't know Gwen Stacy is in the suit),scarlet spider, miles should have a different name now. He might have been Spider-Man when Peter was dead in the ultimate verse but now in this verse, new name. Can still have his own book n story, but Parker is Spider-Man n that's it. Miles can be the red spider or black spider or the arachnid. Something else.

With the 60 some #1's coming I'm sure that there will be a Peter Parker book. Especially if (by the cover here) Parker Industries is still in the mix with Peter at the helm. Basically learning to divide responsibility amongst his spider-friends.

I want to pick this up but my current opinions on Bendis are causing me to have trouble making up my mind.

I will say I wish Bendis wasn't writing it.

His final Miles: Ultimate Spider-Man arc was so [frick]ing terrible. It was lazy, illogical, unevenly paced, and just downright bad.

I still don't know how Peter and Norman came back from the dead and it doesn't seem like we will be getting an answer anytime.

I think it's likely that we will have this series ("Spider-Man") and another one starring Peter( probably keeping the title "The Amazing Spider-Man")

Gwen is called Spider-Woman within the comics. Spider-Gwen started as a fan nickname, and is now used as the series name and when referring to the character in the comic community.

Having two spider-men running around New York is really going to piss off Jolly Johan.

@almazing

That's actually a famous line from Kitty Pride. It may have actually been her first words of dialogue.

I think composer James Horner may have just been in a fatal airplane crash.

As someone who's a clear fan of Peter Parker's Spider-Man, I think this is a great choice. The character of Miles Morales has proved to be very deserving of sharing the mantle with Peter. Why not shake thing up a bit and let him represent Spider-Man

I think I might be able to deal with this... with Miles as one Spider-Man, it gives Peter more flexibility to focus on new inventions/innovations at Parker Industries, and possibly finally get an honest transition into married man and father role that doesn't get f*cked around by deals with demons, astral f*ckery and crazy spider-munching superbeings hell-bent on wiping out all those with spider powers.

I very much doubt Marvel's going to make Miles the #1 Spider-Man; Miles is going to serve like how Ben Reilley did as the Scarlet Spider: to help shoulder some of the workload in cleaning up crime in New York. And you can bet your asses that as long as Peter has his spider powers, married with kids or not, he's going to keep true to his code of "with great power comes great responsibility".

This could be good guys. Give it a chance!

I am sorry. I like Miles. He is the only character Bendis' writing still pops for. Sara is a great artist. If this title fails...if the public isn't clamoring for this as much as Marvel insists it is, it will be because Bendis is such a pompous moron. And, because Peter Parker fans know for sure every bit of this move is forced and unorganic. A "Miles Morales: Spider-Man", or, my preference, "Spider-Teen" alongside the traditional Peter Parker Spider-Man books would have won a lot more support...this just feels smarmy insulting and holier-than-thou. Marvel's licking of the boots of p.c. trends is going to cost it reliable readers, and thus sales, for it's most popular character. I think they know this and simply do not care.
I have no doubt the title will be good but if Bendis had the midas touch he thinks he has and the public was as gung-ho for Miles as much as Marvel claims, then the Ultimate brand would have been saved and we wouldn't be here where we are today. The fact is, Miles was created to be the new push for the Ultimate brand and it wasn't enough. I don't think this will work out as planned either...because Marvel created the Resistance themselves.
