Spider-Man: Brand New Day has resonated with audiences in a way few modern blockbusters manage to. However, with rave reviews from fans and critics, along with a massive $2.4 billion box office haul, everyone is wondering the same thing: when will we see Spider-Man 5?
Speaking at the BofA Securities 2026 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference in New York, Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Ravi Ahuja shared a positive update, albeit one that's a little more vague than most would like.
He started by hailing Spider-Man: Brand New Day's box office success as a "tremendous result," adding, "We obviously hadn’t forecast that. We thought it would do incredibly well, but we didn’t know that would do that well."
"Really, everybody came together to create a great thing," Ahuja continued, saying that "the movie itself is very emotional. So a little bit different from what some of the more recent superhero movies have been. Still very much a superhero movie — there are a lot of big action scenes."
"It’s a lot of fun. But it’s emotional. Some people come away crying, so that is something that clearly resonated with the audience."
The executive added, "Our producers, Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, did an amazing job, and our film studio also did a tremendous job in the marketing and the distribution," before describing Spider-Man as one of Sony's three biggest franchises. The other two? Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.
So, what of Spider-Man 5? "We don’t have a date for it yet," Ahuja confirmed. "A couple years usually, but there’s a Spider-Verse movie coming next year." That's probably the closest we've come yet to learning that the Spider-Man: Brand New Day sequel could arrive as soon as 2028.
X-Men, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther 3 are scheduled for that year, so 2029 still seems more likely. However, this acknowledgement from Ahuja makes it clear Sony is actively discussing and planning Spider-Man 5.
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control.
