Spider-Man: Brand New Day Deleted Scene Reveals Cut Confrontation Between Punisher And The Cops

New behind-the-scenes images from Spider-Man: Brand New Day reveal that Jon Bernthal's Punisher was originally confronted by a cop during a key part of the record-breaking movie's final act.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is breaking box office records, and all eyes are now on just how high Tom Holland's web-slinger can go. Whatever happens in the weeks ahead, we know the blockbuster will top $2 billion and become one of the highest-grossing movies ever released.

Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton has previously confirmed that there were shorter and longer cuts of the movie, and fans are understandably eager to see which deleted scenes make it onto the eventual Digital and 4K Blu-ray releases.

Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple was cut—details on that scene can be found here—and some newly shared photos reveal that a confrontation between The Punisher and the cops was also absent from the final cut.

Military advisor Colton Hill shared some behind-the-scenes photos from his time working on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, including a scrapped cameo featuring his police officer confronting Frank Castle. It looks like this scene was going to play out in the hospital, and it may have answered a big question fans have had: why did hospital staff allow a wanted fugitive to hang out with Spidey in his hospital room?

During a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Punisher actor Jon Bernthal shared his thoughts on where he'd like to see Frank go in the wake of his team-up with Peter Parker.

"I want to see how Frank can serve. I want to see how Frank can honour the dead, how Frank can honour the people that he lost by serving, not just by avenging," he shared. "I think that we get there with Frank in some lines of the comic, and I want to get there. I want to get there on screen with him. I also want to continue to have the courage and the willingness to turn my back on the audience as Frank does."

"There's nothing about Frank Castle that he's trying to be likeable. There's nothing about Frank where he's trying to win over your hearts and minds," Bernthal continued. "And so, as much as I would like to explore Frank Castle that serves the community and that fights for justice, I also want to be completely willing and open to turning my back on the audience and going the other way with it too."

You can see some screenshots of the aforementioned cut scene from Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the Instagram gallery below.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control.

But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.

The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O'Connor. Executive producers include Louis D'Esposito and David Cain.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters.

And they cut this as Clare’s return and kept Ned Leed’s scenes…

The Punisher being allowed in the Hospital was one of the most stupid parts of the movie. ESPECIALLY given he is the one that shot him. But the whole movie, The Fugitive murderer Vigilante is not pursued by cops, and Spider-Man (who is working with the cops), not only works with Punisher, but doesn't turn him in...it really took away from the movie

@DarkeyeZ - For my part I simply couldn't believe that a man could have arachnid DNA. Almost walked out of the theater.

@DarkeyeZ - the punisher has a lot of sympathizers on the force the same as the other vigilantes. but more so punisher because he just eliminates the filth. he is doing what most the cops want to do to murderers, etc. but those scenes with the cop and clare would have gone a long way to put more context to a scene that was great but was a little off to me at the same time because it was way too convenient. even if they added a couple lines from frank explaining how it is that he is in there and no one knows what peter looks like under the mask because of clare.

@DarkeyeZ - I loved the film but have to agree. Punisher is a Mass killer. In NY vigilantes who saves lives and killed a single threat have been arrested (beating the charges many times, granted). Punisher is a MASS killer. If any movie deserved the “heroes team up then are forced to face a greater threat” trope it’s this one.

@supermanrex - Agreed, but even cops who agree with Punisher taking out filth like rapists and traffickers would be forced to arrest him if he walked into a hospital, especially after just shooting Spider Man. I also think he would have had a problem taking a shot at Jean given what happened to his own daughter

@Bucky74 - the jean thing would have been a easy but painful shot for him yes, but his military training of the greater good would have taken over. you see his demeanor change when he saw that field holding all those people in place, he instantly went full punisher. the dude has a heart for sure as we seen in the past shows and this movie but when monsters start winning frank turns off compassion and goes full mission mode, and at that point he only knew jean as a freaky monster and was taking peters word that she is not. at the end of the day cutting the cop scene and clare , removed plausibility and smears an already great scene at the end. They maybe could have forgone the spiderman fans outside the hospital and just had frank stripped peter of the costume before hand and bring him in regular clothes, jean would have held his internal organs in place like she was already doing to keep him alive to make the clothes switch possible without further harm to peter. but i understand the trope that needed to be used when a superhero is in the hospital and use the gathering crowd and candle light vigil.it is a VERY spiderman style scene.

@supermanrex - Agreed. And while I loved the team up, Peter not even acknowledging that Frank is a mass killer let alone not seeming to have a problem with that was an odd choice
supermanrex
supermanrex - 8/7/2026, 10:18 AM
@Bucky74 - i think all that happened before, and i think whatever the hell happened at Staten Island is where they got over their obvious differences. the same way frank and matt murdock eventually learned to respect one another for the greater good. where frank and matt are like two grumpy co workers who help each other. Peter and Frank after Staten Island grew into actual friends. he even says in the hospital Peter is a kind of friend he hasn't had before. all Franks close associates from the past shows were all in the same life as him, trained killers. Frank doesnt let alot of people into his bubble to the point where he actually listens to them and sheds a damn tear or two. peter is in rare air with curtis, amy, the girl he helps in season 2 and to some extent daredevil.

Going by the pictures , it seems like this cut scene was moreso just a moment in which Frank was stopped by a police officer from going further after bringing Peter to the hospital…

If that’s all there was to this scene then i can understand it being deleted since it feels unneeded imo.

Anyway given there are some One Last Kill images in there too , i will say that i did like the special (even if i had my issues with it feeling like a rehash of Punisher season 2 arc’s of Frank going from vengeance to protection/justice) and in hindsight , it did serve as a nice bridge/transition piece into BND where Frank was in more “superhero” territory or about as much as that character should be imo!!.

Should have not cut Clare sneaking them into the hospital

these scenes should have been replaced by a quick couple lines of exposition from frank when peter wakes up so we can all understand how frank is even allowed to stick around and how peter is going to be able to walk out of the hospital without anyone who worked on him not recognizing his face which i believe the clare scene would have cleared that up. as far as i know the spell only keeps you from knowing his name is peter parker, not preventing you from remembering his face after you see it.
