SPIDER-NOIR Will Compete In Comedy Categories At The Emmys - What Does It Mean For Prime Video Series?

In a surprise twist, it's been revealed that the upcoming Spider-Noir TV series will compete in the Comedy categories at the Emmys. Here's what that means for the small-screen Spider-Man story.

The first trailer for Spider-Noir suggested the upcoming Prime Video series would be a drama with, if anything, some major horror undertones. There may be more to the show than meets the eye, though.

According to a report from Gold Derby, the plan is for Spider-Noir to compete in the Comedy categories in the first Emmys cycle. Wonder Man is expected to be pushed in the same category, and this could lead to the series—assuming it's well-received—squaring off with the likes of Only Murders in the Building and Shrinking

What about Spider-Noir makes it a comedy? That's a question many fans are asking today, and Nicolas Cage's barmy performance may be the answer.

During a recent interview, executive producer Phil Lord said, "That trailer is great. They did a wonderful job. [Cage is] amazing. He had this great idea, which was, 'I want to play this like a spider pretending to be a person.'"

Miller added, "Like, 'After what happened to me, I'm more spider than person, and I have to act like a human in public, and in private I can be my true self.' So he sometimes goes to the movies, his character, and practices and studies what the actors are doing so he can use it in his real life."

So, Ben Reilly will be more spider than man, an interesting twist that lends itself well to a zany, comedic performance from the Ghost Rider star.

It's too soon to say how fans will respond to Spider-Noir, especially as it's taking some major liberties with the comics. For most, the involvement of Lord and Miller is enough to give it a shot, particularly as they've overseen the animated Spider-Verse movies for Sony Pictures.
