MAN OF STEEL: Henry Cavill And Zack Snyder Discuss Romance With Lois Lane, Flight And More
Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and star Henry Cavill refuse to give too much away when asked about Clark Kent and Superman's romantic relationship with Lois Lane, while David Goyer discusses how flight will be handled in this "grounded" take on the character.
"That is hard to answer," Man of Steel director Zack Snyder told Empire in the latest issue of the magazine when asked about the romantic elements of the film. As fans of the comic books and past live-action interpretations of Superman will already know, the romantic relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane has always been a key part of the mythos, so what makes this such a difficult question to answer? "That gives a bit of the DNA of the movie away. Suffice to say, whether it is Superman or Kal-El or Clark Kent, we wanted to make him cooler. You'll have to wait and see the why of it. [Amy Adams] is everything you would hope for from Lois Lane."
Superman actor Henry Cavill was equally as tight-lipped about whether we will see Lois and Clark hooking up on the big screen this summer. "I can't talk about that too much. I don't want to be giving away the idea of the film too early, but Amy is a great actress, very professional, a pleasure to work with..." Talk then turned to another big aspect of the movie; flight. With numerous mentions of a realistic and grounded take on the character, does this mean that a big chunk of Man of Steel will be taken up with explanations of how it all works? "We worked out things for our own purposes," said writer David Goyer. "But that is not that important. It's interesting that he doesn't know how he flies. He didn't grow up on Krypton."
This a sentiment echoed by Cavill. "The tricky thing is there is a sense of awe and also a sense of being frightened." This can't have been easy for the actor, especially as Snyder goes on to reveal in the magazine that he used little to no wire work in the movie as he instead decided that "Superman cannot do anything that is not visual effects" (their words, not Snyder's). The director also reportedly made the decision to film a lot of the movie with handheld cameras. Be sure to share your thoughts on all this in the usual place!
