James Gunn Says Frank Grillo "Doesn't Know Anything," Seemingly Confirming No Wonder Woman In Man Of Tomorrow

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has seemingly debunked claims that we'll see Blue Beetle and Wonder Woman in Man of Tomorrow after a recent social media post from Rick Flag Sr. actor, Frank Grillo.

Yesterday evening, Peacemaker Season 2 star Frank Grillo shared a fan-made poster for Man of Tomorrow on Instagram featuring the movie's main cast. The fact that it included Xolo Maridueña's Blue Beetle and Adria Arjona as Wonder Woman led many to conclude that Grillo had revealed their respective roles in James Gunn's Superman sequel.

Now, though, the filmmaker has been forced to deny this and doesn't seem at all bothered about embarrassing the Rick Flag Sr. actor who reprises the role in the DCU next summer.

"It's Frank reposting somebody because it has his photo in it, and he loves himself," Gunn wrote. "I can assure you Frank doesn't know who Adria is playing in the DCU and whether or not she has any sort of incredibly small cameo in [Man of Tomorrow] or not."

He went on to caution that, "People have been making wayyyyyyyyyyy too much of this," suggesting Arjona may only have a minor role in the movie and isn't necessarily showing up in Man of Tomorrow as the DCU's Diana Prince.

Gunn took things a step further by sharing a screenshot of a conversation with Grillo, in which he chastised the actor and told fans on Threads, "He doesn't know anything." It's unclear why he's upset about Grillo giving people hope about Blue Beetle when Maridueña has confirmed his DC return in the sequel.

Could this all be a clever misdirect, meant to throw fans off the scent and protect Arjona's role as Wonder Woman? It's possible, though Gunn has been transparent about neither Batman nor Wonder Woman necessarily making their DCU debuts anytime soon. It's also hard to believe that work on the Wonder Woman movie hasn't been paused, given the negative response to writer Ana Nogueira's work on Supergirl.

We'll have to wait and see, but DC Studios may be taking the same approach to Arjona that Sony Pictures did with Sadie Sink in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. That speculation and excitement did wonders for the movie, and Man of Tomorrow recapturing even a fraction of that kind of box office success would be a dream for Gunn.

In Man of Tomorrow, Superman will be forced to team up with Lex Luthor to battle Brainiac, a threat not just to Metropolis but to the entire world.

Written and directed by James Gunn, the movie stars include David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr., Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.

Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, Sinqua Walls, and Adria Arjona will also star. However, as we mentioned above, we still don't know whether the latter is playing Maxima or Wonder Woman. There's also speculation that Eva De Dominici is playing one of the characters, and there's always a chance the Diana Prince rumblings don't pan out. We'll have to wait and see.

Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027.

I could have told you that after hearing him pout about the MCU so bad once they didn't need Crossbones.

We have very different definitions of the word chastise.

Lol I really dig Gunn man. Thats exactly Frank. Pompous arrogant self centered dude who is also a good actor. You can gather that alone from just his interviews. Quacks like a duck. He's a duck

Maybe Safran should take this one and just come out and say she's not Wonder Woman and say who she's playing and maybe release a 1st look. This will hopefully quell expectations.

@UnderBelly - What makes you think they would want to quell expectations? Maybe they're hoping that by the time those expectations end up disappointing, people will already have bought tickets and the movie makes money.

@Patient2670 - Not sure if you were around when all the crazy theories were going around when Wanda Vision was coming out and how dissapointed fans were with it and then all the hate leading into the rest of the Multiverse Saga stemmed from there.

With DC now after supergirl and a bit of hate on Lanterns (we'll see about clayface) i think certain secretive reveals around properties like this can be more harmful in this information age we're in and how quickly misinformation spreas could potentially do it more harm than good.

If she were playing Wonder Woman I'd think they'd just stay quiet, but the fact he's responding shows their worried about fan expextations for likely good reason.

Just my opinion.

@UnderBelly - I think that's a valid point, I just don't think everyone would make that same choice. Especially an Exec who desperately need ticket sales to save not only his job, but likely his directing or writing opportunities. And don't get me wrong, I'm not by any means a Gunn hater. He's just in a precarious spot these days.

Well Josh , Xolo might have confirmed him being in MOT but he hasn’t confirmed to what extent he’s in the film or his role in it which could amount to it being a blink & you miss appearance , cameo or even full supporting role…

By reposting this image , Grillo might imply to his followers or others that he has a big role in the film or that he even puts on the suit which he may not and just appear as Jaime in the film thus creating false expectations which is not helpful.

Also , I don’t think I need to describe to you that posting that with Adria as Wonder Woman when she may or may not be playing her in the final film could just be plain misleading if it’s the latter or spoiling it for people who perhaps haven’t been following the hubbub around her role if it’s the former.

I get it Josh , you don’t like Gunn’s DCU but atleast try to think about things rationally before posting stuff like this!!.

Gunn is just herding cats, stupid rumors, badly cast ridiculous d-list characters, and his disintegrated slate of movies/shows he promised when he got this job.

He's trying to paddle and patch his lifeboat that is totally full of holes.

She is 100% Wonder Woman. And both Blue Beetle and a recast Batman are also in the movie. And it's a big mess. People have seen it.

Instead of dancing around it, Gunn could just share who she's playing instead
