There's a lot of intrigue surrounding Man of Tomorrow, James Gunn's Superman follow-up that's not strictly a sequel, according to the filmmaker and DC Studios co-CEO.
We know the focus will be on Superman and Lex Luthor after they're forced to work together to protect Metropolis and the world from Brainiac. Several other heroes are confirmed to appear, including John Stewart, Blue Beetle, and, if the rumours are true, Wonder Woman.
While we'd recommend taking the following claims with a pinch of salt, a couple of social media scoopers have shared some huge Man of Tomorrow rumours today (via @SuperSagaNews).
Described as an Avengers: Age of Ultron-level event movie, the focus will mainly be on Superman and Lex, but with various heroes on their own side missions. Man of Tomorrow is reportedly very Lex-cetric, with much of the action taking place off-planet with him, Superman, and Brainiac.
Earth's heroes will get to know each other a little better as the Justice Gang expands and slowly evolves into the Justice League, and there's supposedly a scene with at least 10 heroes gathered together. Comparisons have been made to the Justice League Unlimited series, with one insider stating, "For those who enjoy superhero fan service, with heroes coming together, teams forming, and characters interacting."
Here's the biggest rumour: apparently, Bruce Wayne will appear either right at the end of the movie or in a post-credits scene, setting up The Brave and the Bold.
It seems the actor playing the DCU's Batman will finally be revealed next summer. If so, that's going to go a long way in placating fans who want this franchise to focus less on second-tier heroes and more on heavy-hitters like the Dark Knight and Diana Prince.
Barry Allen, meanwhile, will be mentioned if these leaks are to be believed, meaning The Flash exists somewhere in the DCU.
In Man of Tomorrow, Superman will be forced to team up with Lex Luthor to battle Brainiac, a threat not just to Metropolis but to the entire world.
Written and directed by James Gunn, the movie stars include David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr., Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, Sinqua Walls, and Adria Arjona will also star. However, as we mentioned above, we still don't know whether the latter is playing Maxima or Wonder Woman. There's also speculation that Eva De Dominici is playing one of the characters, and there's always a chance the Diana Prince rumblings don't pan out. We'll have to wait and see.
Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027.
