New Man Of Tomorrow Rumors Point To More Iconic DC Heroes Being Referenced During Brainiac's Invasion

New DCU rumors suggest James Gunn's Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow, is hiding even more heroes than what's been previously reported and confirmed.

DC Studios’ Man of Tomorrow is starting to look a lot like DC’s answer to The Avengers.  The film is reportedly a full-on blockbuster crossover event that will see a large number of heroes 'assembled' to oppose a villain that no one hero can take down alone.

That somewhat makes sense, as Brainiac typically invades Earth with a massive fleet and remote-controlled avatars, as seen in recent modern storylines like Superman: House of Brainiac and Panic in the Sky.

David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult's Superman and Lex Luthor are going to be forced to team up to stop Lars Eidinger's Brainiac in the 2027 superhero film but their combined defense of the planet also includes:

  • Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific
  • Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern
  • Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern
  • Isabela Merced  as Hawkgirl
  • María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer
  • Milly Alcock's Supergirl
  • Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle
  • Adria Arjona as Maxima or Wonder Woman

Previous rumors state that Jay Garrick might appear or be referenced in the film, and we now have several new reports that state several more superheroes will also be referenced.

These reports state that these new superheroes are more likely to just be referenced, similar to the  Hall of Justice metahuman mural in Superman.  Interestingly enough, Gunn previously stated back around the release of Superman in theaters, that two of those heroes in the mural are very important to upcoming DCU projects, and to date, none of those characters have physically appeared in anything.

Jumping back to the more recent rumors for Man of Tomorrow, one of the new reports says that Mary Marvel will be referenced in the film while another report says Captain Atom will also be mentioned or referenced in some way.

These new leaks come straight from set-watchers on the ground in Georgia, where production bounced between Trilith Studios in Atlanta and smaller towns like Byron, Fayetteville, and Macon.

The real mystery now is whether all these heroic references actually setup future DCU projects, or if James Gunn is just scattering fun easter eggs for hardcore comic readers to spot.

Do you think a team of Superman, Lex Luthor, The Engineer, Supergirl, 2 Green Lanterns, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Blue Beetle and possibly Wonder Woman is enough to stop a Brainiac invasion, or do you think more metahuman firepower will be needed?

The first footage from Man of Tomorrow is reportedly set to be unleashed in December, so DC fans around the world should be getting their first glimpse of the scale of Brainiac's invasion in just a few short months.

Captain Atom has a badass powerset; shame he hasn't gotten his own movie yet.

Cool if true…

Given that Captain Atom has apparently been stated to appear in Creature Commandos S2 , I could see him being mentioned or referenced in MOT if that is true.

Honestly , same with Mary Marvel if the Shazam family already exists in the DCU given this is a universe familiar with superheroes!!.

Anyway if this is a big crossover event akin to Captain America:Civil War , i hope we do get some good character interactions since I’m especially excited to see the likes of John Stewart interacting with Superman or even Mr Terrific…

Hell , Supergirl & Hawkgirl could be particularly fun given how similar they seem from what we know of these versions!!.

@TheVisionary25 - what are the odds that the Creature Commandos show up in Man of Tomorrow?

I am so excited. This will be the best Superman movie ever made.

Finally we get to see him fight Brainiac! And more of the best Lex of all time.

@SteviesRightFoo -

100%.

Even if MoT is a big hit, does that justify everything else being trash?

The DCFU V2 sucks. Gunn’s gotta go.

@DocSpock - @DocSpock - you dorks spend way too much time digging on 2 hour long movies you haven’t even seen, and when they do come out, you probably don’t even leave your moms basement to go to the movies. The studios don’t care about your shared universe fantasy draft of directors and actors.

@CaptainMexico -

Well new guy. Most people here know you missed the mark on almost everything there.

Give me some specifics about your gripe with me, or be gone little troll.

@DocSpock - you’re a whiner, just reading your complaints on here make me feel really sorry for you. I’m definitely not new to this site, not sure why you would think that…maybe your fedora is on a bit too tight

$100 bet says that Mary Marvel will be the subject of some dumb sexual joke.

Outside of Supes, Supergirl and possibly Wonder Woman, none of the "featured" heroes are anything like "iconic." And honestly neither are Capt. Atom and Mary Mervel. Heck, Mary shouldn't even be introduced before Shazam.

I get it that Gunn likes to focus on lesser-known characters. Look at what he did for Marvel with Guardians. But this is not the way to establish a comic book universe. In Marvel we had the main players in place first.

WB has just had it's worst year in 28 years, in part because of the WB obsession with trying to copy the success of the MCU. The MCU's success was grounded on a lot of happy accidents, such as RDJ as Stark. WB cannot replicate that. Even Marvel couldn't replicate it with their disasterous Stage 5. They let the original cast go and the success went with them. They now want to mix together Stages 1 and 5 and come out with a revived Stage 5 cast but it can't work.

And nothing Gunn does can make the DCU a hit series. Man of Tomorrow could be a disaster because Gunn's Superman is already aging badly and the Supergirl disaster shows a loss of interest in the DCU and Corenswet's Superman.

@ManDeth - WB are obsessed with doing things differently from Marvel. Both times now they've refused to follow the MCU model, stating that it's not the only way to build a shared universe (like they're such experts on the matter). Welp, it seems like it is, since it's the only way that's ever worked.

@ManDeth - I do agree with everything else you said though. Maybe WB want to replicate Marvel's success but simply fail to replicate their original strategy.

We are getting John Stewart and Guy Gardner, but no Hal Jordan. The Hal Jordan humiliation ritual continues. Why does DC hate my favorite character so much?
