More From Ayelet Zurer On MAN OF STEEL; Compares Movie To THE DARK KNIGHT

The actress will play Lara Lor-Van in Man of Steel, and in the following interview she discusses the tone of the Zack Snyder helmed reboot, the pressure of playing Superman's mother and working with green screen.

Talking to Collider, actress Ayelet Zurer was quizzed on the tone of Man of Steel and just like the young actor who plays Clark Kent (Dylan Sprayberry) she compared the film to The Dark Knight. "I can’t say much, but from what I’ve seen, it looks closer to the darkness of The Dark Knight," she revealed. "Christopher Nolan is also executive producing the movie. It has a very dark feeling to it, and less of a black and white type of Superman. It’s going to be a little edgier."

As for whether or not she feels worried about playing an important character like Superman's mother, Zurer isn't letting the pressure get to her. "You know, if the scenes weren’t well written and they weren’t emotional enough, I would have had a problem because you are aware of the heroic moments, but mostly I didn’t feel that way, at all. They were just really good, dramatic scenes for me." The green screen also proved not to be an issue. "I wasn’t distracted, at all. It was very quiet and very well kept. People could not bring cameras or phones into the set, so it was very work-oriented. At the end of the day, you really want one thing, which is for your scenes to work. For me, that was great."

STARRING:

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent
Diane Lane as Martha Kent
Michael Shannon as Zod

RELEASE DATE: June 14th, 2013.

"Its closer to the darkness of The Dark Knight" I dont know how I feel about that

Darkness probably stems from the evilness of Zod, rather than Superman himself, so I am still very excited.

as long Supes doesn't have a silly fake voice is all good :P

but seriously, there's just so much "darkness" that you can put into Superman without turning him into a completely different character.

I don't know about anyone else, but I prefer my Superman all stoic and sh*t. you know, bright beacon of hope and justice, the usual.

I'm psyched for this. I hope Supes is done justice in this film.

As for the "Its closer to the darkness of The Dark Knight" remark, not every CBM has to be dark and gritty to be succesful. Just respect the character and their history, and you'll have a great film on your hands.

@TheBlackWidow
Same here.

good thing the world is going to end before this movie makes it to the big screen :)

I can hear the marvelites now. By saying it has a dark tone I think she is most likely referring.to the.choices Clark will have to make. It won't be so black and white. He's a boy scout in a very gray and dark world that is more than just good and evil. The movie will have a gritty tone but supes character will be the same good doing hero we all know. He's gona be pushed to his limits and beyond.

At least this is what I hope. WB did reveal the Lobo movie today :/

Josh- good find. But, I have to tell you... I am so nerd-mad that this is the only news about MOS out there right now. Come on. It's time to get some tidbits from the studio: more set photos, etc.

Is it a sure thing that there will be a teaser trailer before TDKR? I sure as hell hope so.

it will have no choice but to be absolutely wonderful
there are no excuses
the avengers has upped the ante
batman and spiderman will add to the pressure
add prometheus and any and all sci-fi superhero comics based movie from now until the release of this superman movie

If the choices are the corny, campy, cheesy path or the dark, gritty, edgy path I'll take the latter. Remember Superman Returns trying to remake the style of the old movies?

Supes is generally a good-natured hero, so I like it when he gets pissed and kicks some ass once in a while, it shows that even he can only take so much villainy.

@superman78 since this movie is coming out next June, I'd say it'll be somewhat how TDKR was this past year with photos, trailers and such. We'll probably get a little more than we did with TDKR this summer though.

@GiantNerd0720 we'll see when the movie comes out i guess. It is intriguing to know how they will but i'm sure they've done something. We didn't get a whole lot of pics when they were filming. At least, not of Clark Kent.
brewtownpsych
brewtownpsych - 4/20/2012, 4:38 PM
just goes to show how rare the nolans (and i guess the whedons now too) of the world are in hollywood. when these guys do something special, EVERYBODY tries to copy it. spider-man this year is going after the TDK's seriousness, and so is MOS. I suppose this is a good thing but eventually we will need a new shot of adrenaline.
Lilvic92
Lilvic92 - 4/20/2012, 4:38 PM
I guess DC is gonna continue to make their movies dark/gritty. That makes sense of they're gonna try to make a joint universe for a future JLA movie. I'm down.
GingerBird

1. Grif is a grumpy piece of shit.
2. Nolan is the man.
3. If Nolan's involved, this movie will probably be better than all of that cookie cuter Marvel crap (and throw in Green Labtern for good measure because that sucked.)
GiantNerd
GiantNerd - 4/20/2012, 4:42 PM
@JDUKE Yeah, its going to take something pretty ingenious. I'm excited about this movie. Mostly because they are going to do something completely opposite of superman returns. I really want to see some good superman action.

Snyder is pretty good with adaptations (I loved Watchmen),and his visual style is a plus from me,so hoping for the best.

Superman will be the light shinning through that darkness.
WolvieCBM
WolvieCBM - 4/20/2012, 4:46 PM
This whole "darker, grittier and edgier" take on CBM characters works to a certain level. In this case, Superman lost his [frick]ing planet, it's not like he is going to parade around and be happy about it. Same goes for Spidey in the new film (grew up without his parents who left him behind). As long as you make a character relatable for audience, and make a good film in the meantime, it's all good.
SageMode

"I can’t say much, but from what I’ve seen, it looks closer to the darkness of The Dark Knight,"

"Christopher Nolan is also executive producing the movie. It has a very dark feeling to it, and less of a black and white type of Superman. It’s going to be a little edgier."

And this is what I'm afraid of. Superman IS NOT GRITTY OR DARK..
You can make a comic book movie of Superman great by making it MORE SERIOUS, not gritty.

I really don't like the sound of that, but I'll wait and see.
