- Lois returns from wherever she disappeared to in "Doomsday."
- Clark takes on a new approach to fighting crime in Metropolis.

UPDATED 7/1/09: Michael Ausiello has confirmed that yes, the "Mason" role that was being cast is indeed "Zod" who will be played by Callum Blue.

UPDATED 6/26/09: We can now confirm the title is indeed "Savior."
- Casting notices have gone out for "Alia," a "beautiful, sexy femme fatale assassin with mysteriously intimate ties to Clark and Krypton." She's an expert fighter, especially with a throwing star and a sword. They're looking for a martial arts background, and this role will recur.

Another female soldier who is described as "sexy and hot" is "Fiona." She wears a faded military jacket and turns against her leader. Together with another soldier named "Basqat" she imprisons her leader. This role may recur too.

UPDATED 6/21/09: TV Guide has said that Callum Blue makes his first appearance in this episode as Zod, and he will be a series regular.

UPDATED 6/21/09: Matt Mitovich of TV Guide says that we first meet field journalist John Corben as he steps into the shoes of a missing-in-action Clark Kent.

UPDATED 6/18/09: TV Guide has revealed that Beverly Hills 90210 and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles alum Brian Austin Green has been cast in "at least the first two episodes of Season 9" as Superman comics villain "Metallo." In this version of the story, Metallo's alter ego of John Corben will be a journalist for the Daily Planet.

Seems Green has gone from hanging out with cyborgs to actually playing one!

Who's CULLUM BLUE???

Oh yeah, we've had everyone else why not throw BRANDON ROUTH in a ep in season 9?? ; )

Loved the great late REEVES and also DEAN CAIN was pretty cool too!

WARNER BROTHERS , how about a ep with some CHECKMATE agents in it??? Heck DC should be using them on film like MARVEL's using S.H.I.E.L.D!!!

Still, if they want this show to ever work again! They gotta change house! ; )

@Superdog. Yeah people thought the Doomsday fight was going to be epic to. See how that turned out.

But still Green is a good actor(and probs a good guy to be nailen Megan Fox). I have doubts about zod though the actor doesnt look god like or big enough to be zod.

Ive had enough of Smallville especially after Season 8. I dont think that the show is ever going to have Clark fly or wear the costume so rather than look forward to S9 im just going to accept now that I'll probably end up just as disappointed with it as I did with S8.

JOSHW24-

Yes, but you (like I) will still end up watching it, lol. Merely for the "hope" of them steering the ship to the right course!

We all know there are so many ways they COULD fix the show:

-Zatanna putting a spell on Clarks glasses and crest so no one recognizes that they are one in the same.
-Legion ring sending him to the future, then back to the past to correct things
-The Fortress and all it's wizardry some how correcting things
-etc, etc, etc

We have to watch it, 8yrs is a big investment......I NEED to know what happens!!!!

And i'll be honest even if they don't fix it, and if this is the last season and it ends with him in the suit......flying, well hot damn, i'll be satified!

Talontd@-I dint think they can go back and just fix everything.that would be a terrible ending. Also the fortress idead i can see happening. But i think its just gonna end with Supes using a mask. I know no one wants it but i think thats where we're going to end up

As much as the show dissapoints me I'll still watch it. It's better than the other DC shows on.

superdog: Yup, me too. I'll still watch the damn thing - i cant stop now after 8 seasons!

Talontd: having Zatanna putting a spell on Clarks glasses is EXACTLY what they need to do to sort this show out! although i didnt enjoy Season 6 or 7 what annoyed me most was that they promised Season 8 would move the show on but we ended up with a 21 episode Doomsday build up resulting in that pathetic finale.

JOSHW24-

Couldn't agree more. Season 8 started off great, imo. But then Lana got powers, the Doomsday arc started to drag, then the incredibly dissapointing final fight.....which by the way EVERYONE was waiting for (...is he gonna die?, is it gonna be the Superman type fight where building windows are blowing out from the shockwaves of their blows?, etc.), but the more I think about it......this is not entirely Smallville's fault!
Here me out...

...If Superman Returns wasn't big let down (i know there are varying views, but almost everyone agrees the Luthor arc is getting old, and there wasn't enough action) then, I don't think people would have been as mad about the finale.

We are all so desperate to see Supes go toe to toe with someone that we were expecting a TV SHOW to satisfy us! In all fairness Tom Welling threw just as many punches as Brandon Routh!

yeah josh. we all kept getting roped in with the promise of it will get bigger and better. then it doesnt. oh well. its better than watching survivor.

Talontd: trust me, i HATED superman returns-it was one of the most boring movies ive ever seen! i get that Smallville is only a TV show but for Clark to not throw a single punch was pathetic! what idiot wrote that scene?! the show needs new writers asap!

superdog: it will probably be like last year-the first couple of episodes will be good and from there it will all just dddrrraaaggg out and disappoint all over again! thank god for Supernatural though.

Damn it! Why do they keep making all of superman's foes start out at the daily planet. This show seriously needs to grow up or get off the air, someone shoot the writers.
