Top 5: 'MAN OF STEEL' And 'JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK', 'GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY' And More

The top 5 news stories of the week. Admittedly, this was a pretty slow week as the waters remained calm before the storm known as San Diego Comic-Con drops in two weeks. Still, there's news on "Man of Steel," "Justice League Dark, "The Lone Ranger" and more.

WB Officially Announces THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY: ULTIMATE COLLECTOR'S EDITION
By now, you probably own all three Christopher Nolan Batman films on home video but you probably want to check out the extras that are included in the "Ultimate Collector's Edition." The conversation between Nolan and Richard Donner may be worth the cost of the purchase alone.

A Hint Of Quicksilver In New X-MEN: DOFP Production Pic
The picture itself is not that interesting but it's the mere hint that Quicksilver will not just be a nameless mutant running around in the background that's the real revelation here. Although, the Maximoff ranch-style residence doesn't appear to be on Mt. Wundergore.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 'Alien Spaceship Crash' Filming Planned At UK Farmland
Can't go into detail about this post as a subsequent update has revealed a potential spoiler for James Gunns' "Guardians of the Galaxy." Click and read at your own risk.

Guillermo del Toro Open To Linking 'JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK' With 'MAN OF STEEL'
Is that something you would want to see? If an alien from another planet can exist on Earth, surely there's room for a little supernatural and magic. Besides, the occult is one of the few substances besides kryptonite that can hurt Superman so it would add an interesting dynamic to the fledgling world Zack Snyder has built. Hopefully Warner Bros. can get del Toro and Zack in a room together.

BOX OFFICE: THE LONE RANGER Now Looks Set For An Underwhelming $50M 5-Day Total
Looks like not even Johnny Depp can save "The Lone Ranger" from being a flop. Just today, a report speculated that the film is going to be a $150 million dollar loss for Disney. There's still hope that the film will have international appeal but it seems unlikely.

I really hope WBs green lights JL: Dark. Outside of Batman & Superman, DC hasn't been successful at all in films. Sure Watchmen is good but that's it. They need a DC film with characters to have some confidence in saying, yes we can have have success outside of Batman & Superman. And with Del Toro who made the best Blade film & 2 Hellboy films, you can't ask for a better director.

ALSO HELLBOY 3!!!!

Blade also made comic book movies cool after Batman and Robin ended comic book movies. So you can thank Blade for bringing back comic book films to the big screen.

@Levi

That's the point.WB doesn't need any successful DC film characters outside of Superman and Batman. Look at 2014.WB is releasing several big SCI-FI films like Transedence and Jupiter Assending and co-distributing Intersteller but can't get
around to do a DC film for that year because they don't need to.

Blade, lol there is some huge Urban Myth in the comic fanworld that the Blade movies were actually of any significance to the average moviegoer. The reality is that only comic fanboys and the odd core of Wesley Snipes fans (yeah, they existed back then) went to see those films and they made nothing at the box office, Nothing!

The only reason they made a trilogy of these movies was because New Line held the rights and would loose them if they didn't make movies by x-date etc etc. So they made them on cheap budgets and each movie struggled to make even $150 million worldwide. That's how few people bothered watching them outside of comic geeks.

To put it short, these films were non-events as far as the average movie-goer was concerned. Even "uncool" comic films like Fantastic Four, Spider-man 3 or Green Lantern all made more impact with the general public as well as over twice or three times as much more money. It's amazing how fanboys can celebrate and make stuff they like into cult hits that never where. I guess that's what makes us geeks. Blade 2 was the only half-decent movie out of the lot for this geek, the rest were crap Wesley Snipes vehicles with atrocious fight choreography.

BLADE: Domestic = $70 Million, Worldwide = $131 million.
BLADE 2: Domestic = $82 Million, Worldwide = $155 million.
BLADE 3: Domestic = $52 Million, Worldwide = $128 million.

SOME OF THE BEST OF THE WORST:
Spider-man 3: Domestic = $336 million, Worldwide = $890 million.
X-Men 3: Domestic = $234 million, Worldwide $459 million.
Fantastic Four: Domestic = $154 million, Worldwide = $330 million.
Green Lantern: Domestic = $116 million, Worldwide = $219 million.
Green Hornet: Domestic = $98 million, Worldwide = $227 million.
Constantine: Domestic = $75 million, Worldwide = $230 million.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Domestic =$66 million, Worldwide = $179 million. (yes, even this made more money than Blade)

@Ceejay typically when a movie makes "nothing" hollywood does not go and make mutliple sequels in regards to Blade

@ceejay. So a movie is only good if it makes enough money? And the Blade movies had bad fight choreography? Your weird dude.

Hello idiot..nicest thing I'm ever gonna say to you.
Anyone with any intelligence & credibility knows that the original BLADE film set the stage for the comic book movie being taken seriously.

It was never going to make a ton of money because it was rated R & based on an obscure character.
It was & is a great movie, showcased images stolen by The Matrix even..the giant leap from building to building, the bullet-time movement are examples.

As for the fighting..if we're to base who has best fight skills shown in a CBM,it's obviously BLADE as the #1 ass kicker.

Naturally every character has different powers/ abilities but Blade showed he will fvck you up.
Wish the Dark Knight Trilogy showcased Bats fighting better, maybe next franchise..plus making Bats a real detective would help.
