What I would like to see in The Man of Steel.

What I would like to see in The Man of Steel.

Or more like what I wouldn't.

I am a Superman fan. I read the comics, seen the movies, got the action figures. Like most of you, I know where he came from, where he grew up, where he works to make a living. I know he stands for truth, justice, and the American way. I also know that there is a lot of kids who don't know these things, so I am not opposed to an origin scene in the new movie.

But what really grinds my gears is the Lois Lane/Superman/Clark Kent love triangle that is shoved in our face in every movie/show. I know she is an important part of Superman's story, but she is not the only part. I mean come on, that's just lazy writing. It's the same in every movie/show he is in save for the Justice League series. Every time a someone tries to write a script for Superman, its like they say to themselves "I can do a better story" and then write the same thing over and over and over again. They end up with a teen girl romance novel that happens to have Superman in it.

I am not saying to cut her out completely, I'm just saying maybe tone it down. It doesn't need to be the only plot vehicle in the movie. It doesn't need to be Superman's only reason to be. He has other things to do besides saving Lois every time she needs saving,(9 times out of 10 its her own fault) like saving everyone else.

And on the subject of saving folks, I think its time to retire ol' Lex Luthor. He's had a good run, but unless they make a Lex similar to the one in Superman Doomsday,(IMO the best representation of L.L to date) they really just should forget about him as a villain. Don't even have him in the background, don't even say Lexcorp. Real estate scams. That's the best they could and will ever come up with in a movie. They call it paying tribute to the Reeves movies, but once again it is just lazy writing.

With such a rouges gallery to choose from, why is it that they always stick to Lex. Because it's easy. Here's a thought DC/WB, take a look at Ironman 1. Do you guys see it, good. Now, see that they hint at a bigger villain, but don't come out and say who it is. That is how you build a franchise. Start with a lesser but still known villain(IDK Parasite or Metallo maybe) with you know who pulling the strings, and work up to a Lex/Superman showdown.

Or even better, save Lex for the second movie. In the end we find that Darksied was behind it all along, and he is preparing to invade Earth. Now that would be most epic and a good franchise that will out shine the Reeves films.

At the end of the day, I just really want this movie to succeed. I want to see my hero fight to save the day, not just the girl. I want to see him pushed to his limits, only to come out on top. I want to see the emotional toil that comes with doing whats needed and doing whats right. I can only hope that this movie will be worthy of its title, The Man Of Steel.
