Bumblebee is a prequel story set in the '80s, which gave Paramount and director Travis Knight the freedom to reintroduce several well-known Transformers characters sporting classic G1 designs - something old-school fans were very happy to see.

The most recent trailer for the spin-off gave us a few teasing glimpses of Optimus Prime looking a lot more like the original interpretation of the Autobot leader than he did in Michael Bay's movies, and now we can get a much better idea of his final design thanks to this "Generation 1" featurette and a new image.

The video also includes interviews with Knight, as well as stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena. Check it out below and let us know if you're looking forward to Bumblebee in the comments.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee the Autobot seeks refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie, on the brink of turning 18 years old and trying to find her place in the world, soon discovers the battle-scarred and broken Bumblebee. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns that this is no ordinary yellow Volkswagen.”

Bumblebee hits theaters on December 21, 2018.

Now was it so hard for Michael Bay and his team to do this back in 2007?
