Shia LaBeouf Says Transformers 3 Will Be Better, Reveals Plot Details

Shia LaBeouf told The Associated Press that Transformers 3 "brings the heart back to the franchise." He starts working on the third installment on Tuesday.

The new script restores a human element that got lost in the second movie, LaBeouf said. "When I saw the second movie, I wasn't impressed with what we did," LaBeouf said at the Cannes Film Festival. "There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone."

Michael Bay returns for the third time as director of the science-fiction franchise, which centers on dueling races of giant robots that bring their war to Earth. The next movie will have what the last one lacked - a sense of human consequences, LaBeouf said.

On the second movie, "we got lost. We tried to get bigger. It's what happens to sequels. It's like, how do you top the first one? You've got to go bigger," LaBeouf said. "Mike went so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie. ... You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn't matter. Then it's just a bunch of robots fighting each other."

With "Transformers 3," the toll of the robot war will be grave for our planet, LaBeouf said.

"There's going to be a lot of death, human death. This time, they're targeting humans," LaBeouf said. "It's going to be the craziest action movie ever made, or we failed."

Transformers 3 is coming to theaters on July 1, 2011.

Hmm Robots killing humans, I'm back on the transformers bandwagon. As long as it's innocent civilians I'm good, innocent deaths make me feel so tingly.

Transformers 2 was crap, So if it will better than the 2nd??? That means its gonna suck. If it's better than the first....??? Then, I'll be interested. But doubt it.

I don't like Bay. I don't like Shia. I don't like Transformers. Guess I just won't watch this. ^_^'

That being said, I actually watched the first 2. The first, I was just curious what they'd do with this franchise. Wasn't overly impressed.

The second one, I just wanted to see if it was really THAT bad. It was... :D

By humans...I hope he means Megan Fox's character.

"It's going to be the craziest action movie ever made, or we failed." That's quite the statement. Hope they can live up to it!

SHIA: "... You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn't matter. Then it's just a bunch of robots fighting each other."

Dude, the whole concept of Transformers is supposed to be a bunch of robots fighting each other. The relationships need to be built more between those robots, not some whiny kid, his airhead girlfriend, and his moronic parents. If humans die in the next one, make it be them.

The craziest action movie ever is what they tried to make last time. Maybe the should try to make "The best Transformer story ever put on film" instead of CRAZY ACTION.

I'm glad people have finally stopped bashing this guy the second he says something.. I give him credit for admitting what shit the second transformers was.. Since he admits it and theyre moving forward from it, i'll watch the 3rd. Had I not read this i'd probably have waited for it to hit dvd to rent it.

@telavizion- You REALLY thought the 2nd was better? he hit the nail on the head saying there was not heart. The cgi either looked worse, or the same yet more noticably bad. Its robots fight, sure, but there needs to be heart and plot to the story, and with the lame plot, but poor cgi, the lack of care towards ANY character, the whole movie was a bust.
comicb00kguy
comicb00kguy - 5/14/2010, 7:32 AM
THAT was what the second film was lacking- HEART. There was no reason to care about any of the human characters in the second film, and GOOD reason to want to see most of them blown up by one or more of the robots. The movie also wasn't very fun, like the first one was. I'm glad to see Shia acknowledging this, and promising that they're trying to fix things this time. I didn't think the second one was nearly as bad as many people here seem to. I thought it was a typical mindless summer movie, enjoyable enough while you watch it, but forgotten by the time you get to your car afterwards.

C'mon man! how can you expect to believe this guy?! Of course he's gonna say the 3rd movie will be better than the last one, the last one was absolute TRASH!! And the human element? The human element was always a secondary thing, it's more about the autobots code of nobility to save the humans & co-exist with them on earth, than their relationship with them. They never even focused on the robots character development, they all have different human-like personalities, but they all just get sort-of blended together. The only one who stood out -Jazz- was killed off! & then you bring in these stupid assed twin robots, who act like the two stooges, and wind up being integral characters of rotf?! They couldn't even get the constructicons right, a big assed para-palegic sand mixer! i'll stick to the cartoon, screw this franchise!
topgooner187
topgooner187 - 5/14/2010, 9:38 AM
again i shall explain. if you want action, explosions and fine ass women then michael bay is the man for you. if you want character development and waterproof plots then you should look elsewhere. all transformers is a bit of fun a popcorn movie don't have exceedingly high expectations for a dramatized robot story and you shall not be dissappointed. WORD!
rolanddeschain
rolanddeschain - 5/14/2010, 9:55 AM
I don't care about the human element! All i'm saying is that they should've focused more on showing off the robots personalities so that we could at least distinguish them better. I like explosions just as much as the next guy, I would just like to be able to tell who's who during them, they can kill all of these lame-ass human characters for all I care. IMO, that's what made the cartoon so good, robots with individual personalities, some goofy, some sneaky, some ruthless, some noble, the humans can go somewhere, take it back to cybertron

dancingmonkey08 - 5/14/2010, 10:16 AM
Wait, its going to be better, so he isnt going to be in it then? lol

And human death, woohoo! I hope its Sam's faggot friend who goes first, crushed by Megatron's foot! Then Sam's parents but just leave Tyrese and Josh alone, they are badass

topgooner187 - 5/14/2010, 10:33 AM
rolanddeschain@ dude have you seen rotf in blu ray, the picture is impeccable. so i dont agree with your point that you couldnt see what was going on or who was doing what.i really liked the human element too i thought sam's mum was frickin hilarious and his dad. then theres also agent simmons played perfectly by john turturro and all the army guys. overall you need to have that human element for the audience to really understand what it would be like to actually be there whilst all this madness was taking place.

topgooner187 - 5/14/2010, 10:36 AM
my only problem was the annoying room mate but he was supposed to be annoying that's why everyone in the cinema cheered when he got shocked with the stun gun. you were supposed to be irritated by him then rejoice when he was inflicted with pain.
rolanddeschain
rolanddeschain - 5/14/2010, 10:56 AM
topgooner@ i also liked turtrro's character, and the annoying roommate served his purpose, too, & I know it's geared toward kids, so it's gonna be campy, that's not my argument. My point is with the robots. During the battle scenes, I, at least, could pretty much only tell the autobots from the decepticons, nothing more. Don't you think that if each robots personality was really utilized, you'd have more of a rooting interest in any particular one? i'm not including those dumb-ass twin robots, either, they don't count..lol when you were younger, & watched the cartoon, didn't you have a particular autobot/decepticon you really liked to see? Didn't you go to toys r us to buy a specific robot, not just pick the generic good one/bad one? They're robots, yes, but they're supposed to have genuine human qualities, as well, and I don't think they took any advantage of that. No young kid I know was clamoring for the new transformer toy, other than Prime, and Bumblebee for the smaller kids. I see a problem with that. Maybe it's just me
topgooner187
topgooner187 - 5/14/2010, 11:28 AM
rolanddeschain@ there were dozens of robots in tf2 if they gave time to give them all a backstory there wouldnt be any left for the action or human parts. if you check out the special features on the blu ray then you would see just how much hard work bay had to put in. he was editing literally hours before the premiere and he done it on time for the opening. i think you may have slightly misjudged bay the man is very passionate and extremely devoted to this franchise. in all honesty we need more guys like him in the movie industry.

you do not always have to go bigger to get a better film. as i say alot, work on the story,acting/casting,effects thats should be practical/cgi blend, and good action spread nicly, and no cheesy comedy.
