At TCA this weekend, Amazon Prime Video debuted a sizze teaser for Season 4 of
The Expanse, the critically accalimed sci-fi drama based on the series of novels by James S.A. Corey. The new trailer teases what looks to be an explosive new chapter for the series, which was revived by Amazon after being cancelled by Syfy.
Season 4 of
The Expanse is the first as a global Amazon Original and picks up after
that shocking Season 3 finale — with Holden having saved humanity and the Rings to 1,300 hospitable planetary systems opened up.
After being revived by Amazon,
The Expanse executive producer and showrunner Naren Shankar
briefly spoke about Season 4 at last year's San Diego Comic-Con.
"We’re in what is really second big movement of the books — it’s a new chapter. They’re no longer constrained by just being able to go in the solar system. New worlds have opened up," Shankar teased.
"How humanity deals with his vast new frontier in a situation where resources have been constrained and how that effects society…that the big next chapter of The Expanse."
The first teaser for Season 4 gives us a glimpse of this next big chapter in
The Expanse, and it looks like fans are in for quite a ride.
Season 4 of The Expanse, its first as a global Amazon Original, begins a new chapter for the series with the crew of the Rocinante on a mission from the U.N. to explore new worlds beyond the Ring Gate. Humanity has been given access to thousands of Earth-like planets which has created a land rush and furthered tensions between the opposing nations of Earth, Mars and the Belt. Ilus is the first of these planets, one rich with natural resources but also marked by the ruins of a long dead alien civilization. While Earthers, Martians and Belters maneuver to colonize Ilus and its natural resources, these early explorers don’t understand this new world and are unaware of the larger dangers that await them.
In addition to the Season 4 teaser, Amazon also announced that
The Expanse has been renewed for a ffith season.
The Expanse Season 5 is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on December 13.
