THE WHEEL OF TIME Fantasy Adventure Adaptation Gets A Series Order At Amazon
It's been a while since we had any updated on this, but we now have official confirmation that Robert Jordan's sprawling series of fantasy novels are to be adapted for the small screen at Amazon...
The last update we had on The Wheel of Time's journey to the screen was back in 2016 when Robert Jordan's widow Harriet McDougal announced that the rights issue with Red Eagle Entertainment had been resolved, and her late husband's fantasy epic would soon become "a cutting edge TV series from a major studio."
Well, we had to wait a bit longer than expected, but Amazon has now announced that The Wheel of Time has been ordered to series and they've also shared a first synopsis to give non-fans an idea of what to expect:
The Wheel of Time is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it. Meaning that in this series — women hold the keys to power. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the ‘Aes Sedai’ as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women.
Moiraine’s interested in these five because she believes one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, whom prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it. The series draws on numerous elements of European and Asian culture and philosophy, most notably the cyclical nature of time found in Buddhism and Hinduism.
It sounds like the show will be taking a few liberties with the source material, but nothing too major.
Survivor contestant-turned-TV writer Rafe Judkins will serve as showrunner and executive producer on The Wheel of Time, which doesn't have a premiere date yet.
