AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Ruth Negga Lands Female Lead In AMC's PREACHER
Rumors point to her fellow Marvel TV alum Dominic Cooper being the frontrunner to play Jesse Custer, but in the first bit of official casting news for the AMC Preacher pilot, Ruth Negga has landed the role of his gun-toting girlfriend, Tulip O'Hara. More past the jump...
A while back we heard that AMC's Preacher adaptation was looking to cast an African American actress in the role of Tulip O'Hara, and it seems there was some truth to that... though Ruth Negga is Ethiopian-Irish! Deadline report that the actress -- who can currently be seen trying to come to terms with her Inhuman appearance as Raina on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. -- is the first confirmed cast member for the small screen take on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's controversial comic series, which is being developed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
Tulip is described by Deadline as "a volatile, action-packed, sexified force of nature, a capable, unrepentant criminal with a love of fashion and ability to construct helicopter-downing bazookas out of coffee cans and corn shine who’s not afraid to steal, kill or corn cob-stab her way out of a bad situation." Sounds about right! Though Dominic Cooper's name has been brought up for Custer, the site make no mention of that or of any potential Cassidys, but keep an eye on CBM for updates.
