There's a massive amount of excitement surrounding Russell T Davies' return to Doctor Who for what promises to be an exciting - and big-budget - new era of storytelling.
Disney+'s involvement has seen the long-running sci-fi series get a much-needed cash injection which has attracted A-List talent and opened the door to more ambitious stories. However, Davies being back behind in charge is still the biggest cause for celebration and we've now learned that at least two additional top-tier creatives will join him.
The official Doctor Who website (via SFFGazette.com) has revealed that season 14 of Doctor Who will feature an episode co-written by Loki director Kate Herron and Briony Redman.
The episode will be part of Ncuti Gatwa's run as the Fifteenth Doctor and this marks Herron's long-awaited return to sci-fi (and time-travel) after she made a huge impact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The filmmaker decided against returning for Loki season 2 and we've been waiting to learn what's next for her.
Briony is an actor, comedian and BAFTA Rocliffe-winning writer, whose work includes the Welsh crime-comedy Pont Brec with Damian Evans, and the award-winning short film Forget-Me-Not, which screened across film festivals internationally.
This won't be their first collaboration, though, as they previously teamed up for The Storkening, Miss Universe, and Smear.
"Clearly I can’t get enough of time travel," Herron said in a brief statement. "It is an absolute honour to write for Russell and Ncuti. We had so much fun and can’t wait for you all to see it." Redman adds, "As a big fan of Doctor Who and Russell T Davies, it’s been a dream to write on this show."
Davies also chimed in to add, "This is when I absolutely love my job. Working with the stellar talents of Kate and Briony makes my whole world bigger and brighter, and a lot more fun. I was a huge fan of Loki and reached out to Kate to say so - she then introduced me to Briony, and it was all systems go!"

Doctor Who returns in November 2023 with three special episodes with David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor to coincide with the 60th anniversary.
