To say FX on Hulu's upcoming adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's seminal comic series Y: The Last Man has not had the smoothest of journeys to the screen would be an understatement, but the series is set to premiere this September, and we finally have some footage to share via the first full-length promo.
The trailer begins with a cataclysmic event that decimates every mammal on the planet with a Y chromosome... except for two: Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer) and his pet monkey, Ampersand. From there, we see the survivors attempt to make sense of what happened and forge ahead in the hopes of establishing some semblance of a society.
Eliza Clark (Animal Kingdom) is on board as showrunner, and the cast also features Olivia Thirlby, Diane Lane, Amber Tamblyn and Ashley Romans.
Eliza Clark took over from Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croalin as showrunner last year, while Ashley Romans (I'm Dying Up Here; NOS4A2) and Olivia Thirlby (Dredd; Juno) were also brought in to replace the originally cast Lashana Lynch and Imogen Poots as Agent 355 and Hero Brown, respectively. No reason was given at the time, but chances are scheduling conflicts became an issue when production was delayed.
Louise Friedberg is directing the first two episodes from Clark's script. All 10 Season 1 episodes will be helmed by women.
Y: The Last Man also stars Marin Ireland, Diana Bang, Elliot Fletcher and Juliana Canfield, and is set to premiere on September 13.
