Y: THE LAST MAN - Check Out The Full-Length Trailer For FX On Hulu's DC Comics Adaptation

To say FX on Hulu's upcoming adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's seminal comic series Y: The Last Man has not had the smoothest of journeys to the screen would be an understatement, but the series is set to premiere this September, and we finally have some footage to share via the first full-length promo.

The trailer begins with a cataclysmic event that decimates every mammal on the planet with a Y chromosome... except for two: Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer) and his pet monkey, Ampersand. From there, we see the survivors attempt to make sense of what happened and forge ahead in the hopes of establishing some semblance of a society.

Eliza Clark (Animal Kingdom) is on board as showrunner, and the cast also features Olivia Thirlby, Diane Lane, Amber Tamblyn and Ashley Romans.

Eliza Clark took over from Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croalin as showrunner last year, while Ashley Romans (I'm Dying Up Here; NOS4A2) and Olivia Thirlby (Dredd; Juno) were also brought in to replace the originally cast Lashana Lynch and Imogen Poots as Agent 355 and Hero Brown, respectively. No reason was given at the time, but chances are scheduling conflicts became an issue when production was delayed.

Louise Friedberg is directing the first two episodes from Clark's script. All 10 Season 1 episodes will be helmed by women.

Y: The Last Man also stars Marin Ireland, Diana Bang, Elliot Fletcher and Juliana Canfield, and is set to premiere on September 13.

As a fan of the comic I have to say this looks better than I thought; given the production hell its been through.

Hopefully this doesn't get bogged down in woke politics. It's an easy pit fall given the premise.

@Origame - Yeah, that's my main worry. The ironic song choice was a bit on the nose.

@TheFinestSmack - yeah but that's a trailer. Oftentimes a studio will send footage to an outside company to make the trailers. And they often don't know the full context. So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt there.

But given the social climate movies and TV shows have been having lately, I wouldn't be surprised if they make this show as something like humanity being better off with all men dead.

@Origame - Uhhh…that’s exactly what the source material is.

@DTor91 - ...it ends with them needing to clone men in order for humanity to continue to exist. What are you talking about?

@Origame - Using the word "woke" wrong again.

@Battabing - please explain to me the right way to use woke then. Or are you one of those people without self awareness to realize it's a derogatory term now?

@Origame - Being woke has nothing to do with liberal policies or conservative scapegoating. It is code within the Black community to be ever vigilant of the suspicious behavior of certain entities (police, FBI, CIA, the judicial system) that often negatively impact them.

@Battabing - thats PART of being woke. It's evolved to include ALL liberal politics and is now something the left are abandoning because it's being used as a joke against the left. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woke

It's The Walking Dead, but instead of zombies, we get Karens.

They're bringing Ampersand to the party, so that's a plus. 9 times out of ten when you include a monkey, it ups the game.

I'll give it a watch.
