Ahead of its Comic-Con panel in San Diego this Saturday, HBO has released a new trailer for House of the Dragon (via SFFGazette.com), the highly anticipated 10-episode Game of Thrones prequel that premieres on August 21.
Bringing fire and blood to the franchise, it offers an action-packed look at what's ahead and puts the spotlight on the massive cast of characters we'll be spending time with in the show. In terms of production values, this definitely looks like a big budget project, and those dragons are arguably even more impressive than the last time we saw them flying above Westeros.
Based on author George R.R. Martin's best-selling Fire & Blood, the series, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen.
In the show, we'll learn how the powerful family fell into a bitter and brutal civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons," presaging the beginning of the end of the ruling dynasty of Westeros. For Game of Thrones fans, exploring this era on screen is an undeniably exciting prospect.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Martin shared high praise for the show. "It’s powerful, it’s visceral, it’s dark, it’s like a Shakespearean tragedy," he enthuses. "There’s no Arya - a character everybody’s going to love. They’re all flawed. They’re all human. They do good things. They do bad things. They’re driven by lust for power, jealousy, old wounds — just like human beings. Just like I wrote them."
House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel, and Rhys Ifans.
Other cast members include Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, and Savannah Steyn.
