GAME OF THRONES Prequel HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Gets An Action-Packed New Trailer Ahead Of Comic-Con

Ahead of its Comic-Con panel in San Diego this Saturday, HBO has released a new trailer for House of the Dragon (via SFFGazette.com), the highly anticipated 10-episode Game of Thrones prequel that premieres on August 21.

Bringing fire and blood to the franchise, it offers an action-packed look at what's ahead and puts the spotlight on the massive cast of characters we'll be spending time with in the show. In terms of production values, this definitely looks like a big budget project, and those dragons are arguably even more impressive than the last time we saw them flying above Westeros.

Based on author George R.R. Martin's best-selling Fire & Blood, the series, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen.

In the show, we'll learn how the powerful family fell into a bitter and brutal civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons," presaging the beginning of the end of the ruling dynasty of Westeros. For Game of Thrones fans, exploring this era on screen is an undeniably exciting prospect.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Martin shared high praise for the show. "It’s powerful, it’s visceral, it’s dark, it’s like a Shakespearean tragedy," he enthuses. "There’s no Arya - a character everybody’s going to love. They’re all flawed. They’re all human. They do good things. They do bad things. They’re driven by lust for power, jealousy, old wounds — just like human beings. Just like I wrote them."

House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel, and Rhys Ifans.

Other cast members include Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, and Savannah Steyn.

Watch the latest trailer for House of the Dragon below and stay tuned to SFFGazette.com for updates from Comic-Con later this week.

Considering the fact that this is based off of an already completed work, I have hope this will stay consistently great all the way through.

GOT is over rated. The books as well. Low rent, derivative, lowest common denominator swill. Whenever I need a laugh I just think of the term, " send a Raven "

I know this will be beaten to death but that ending killed this franchise.

It's quite amazing how something that was a massive global phenomenon, probably more than the MCU at the time, crashed and burned. This is why endings are soooooooo important and shouldn't be rushed. Hopefully these showrunners learned from D&D's mistakes.

Between this, Rings of Power, Willow, and The Witcher, this is the upcoming fantasy show I might be the most excited for.

I'm not that interested in returning to this world after Game of Thrones, but because it definitely has that fantasy-look to it that I still look forward to it (although I guess that's bias, since Game of Thrones has influenced what that fantasy look is).

Looking forward to this but I enjoyed the last seasons for the most part (totally get the knock on characters teleporting around Westeros, the Lanasters death being underwhelming and Golden Company being pointless). I like how everyone else,s fates ended up. And thought The Bells and Longest Night were amongst the best episodes of the series.

Jon Snows can right the ship and make that ending feel much easier to digest. They can address some of the issues we hated Because of that, knowing that game of thrones maybe didn’t end in complete crap I’ll give this a shot.

I think GRRM is missing the point, something Tolkien understands, and GRRM does not. And never will. That's why LOTR is a different breed, loved by so many. Not every human is either good or either bad or either flawed. You have all kinds of people. Some are purely good, some are purely evil and some are in between. Some don't want that power. The way he talks about HOTD makes me less hyped honestly. I don't want to see the same type of human in a TV show where they all want the power and all are flawed characters with just 1 goal in mind. That's bland. I don't want characters like Arya in a TV show, but I also don't want the exact opposite of that. There should be a balance something GRRM is severely lacking. Something Tolkien has in spades.

I watched the trailer. And while it all looks very cinematic and great, the premise felt very ''bland''. We have a throne that a lot of characters want to attain. It gets fckn boring after so many seasons of this same concept, just to repeat it again in a different timeline. The whole premise of why GOT was so popular was because of the premise of the white walkers. Everything else was a nice bonus. But no one gave a sh1t about who gets to sit on a throne lol. And now he's saying that's all it's gonna be ? MEH indeed.

Looks fantastic! I got high hopes for this. It has good showrunners, a killer cast, and actually has an ending that was completed lol. People quickly forget that Game of Thrones still had 6 seasons of some of the best television ever made despite its failure to stick the landing.

This definitely looks to be worth getting excited for.

Is it confirmed one-and-done? Have they done all this production work, casting, characters, time period adjustments, "just" to make 10 eps and call it day? Seems unlikely but there's some hope for it as content if so. If they are planning multiple seasons it will eventually hit the same issue GoT did, and pretty much every series that carries on for too long--running out of material built into the original premise. GoT really shouldn't have done but there we go.
