The first book(which the first season is based on) is very good so hopefully the show will be too. There might not be quite enough action for some though.

@ror, Any supernatural elements...?

There are dragons(although they haven't appeared in the story yet, just the eggs!) and Wraith like creatures called "Others" but again, so far they have really only been spoken of.

I just read "A Game of Thrones" over the holidays and I have to say that it was great, I'm confused about what exactly they are going to do with the TV series, I mean in that one book alone there is more than enough for several seasons. I will say that perhaps this will spark Martin to finish the 5th book in the series. I look forward to reading the others, I'm into the second now and it's as good as the first, no doubt. I highly recommend them.

@Ror--Anything else you can find on the series would be greatly appreciated, HBO is doing a good job of keeping hush about plot details and such. I imagine they'll cut quite a bit if they are going to do a 1 to 1 ratio book to season, but if they cut any of Jon Snow and Tyrion I'm going to boycott (well probably not)

All four books out are awesome. The supernatural elements get bigger as the story goes on. There is some majic, the Others show up and the dragons hatch.

I've never seen the source material, but the show looks awesome. HBO has really made a comeback of late, and this could fill a significant hole that was left when Carnivale and Rome ended.

This is going to be the best show on HBO, by far.

It's pretty cool that HBO are going to have two fantasy type shows on its channel. This and True Blood. I would love to see what HBO could do with the Sci-Fi genre.

@ BillyBlack,
Carnivale was an awesome show. It's a shame they didn't do season 3 and 4 like they planned.
