"Dreams didn't make us kings. Dragons did."
HBO has released the first teaser trailer for House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones spinoff based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood. The series, which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen and promises to fill in some big gaps in Westeros history.
This sneak peek features the first official footage from the highly anticipated series, and spotlights several previously announced cast members along with some new additions.
In the trailer, we see Wil Johnson as Ser Vaemond Velaryon (younger brother to Coryls Velaryon and commander in the Velaryon navy), John Macmillan as Ser Laenor Velaryon (son of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen), Savannah Steyn as Lady Laena Velayron (daughter of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen), and Theo Nate as Ser Laenor Velaryon (son of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen).
Paddy Considine (The Outsider), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Steve Toussaint (It’s a Sin), Eve Best (The King’s Speech), Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina) have all also signed on for the series.
This teaser doesn't reveal much, but it certainly sets the tone for the show. Visually, it does at least look a little different to Game of Thrones, so it will hopefully feel like a worthy addition to the canon. Many fans are still up in arms about that finale, so HBO will have to do a lot to earn their forgiveness.
