It's now been more than a year since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wrapped up its seven season run on ABC, but fans of the Marvel Television series remain optimistic that characters and actors from the show will be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The likelihood of this happening is hard to say, especially with both the Darkhold and Mockingbird seemingly rebooted on Disney+ last year.
As time went on, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. went from tying directly into movies like Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier to largely doing its own thing. By the time the finale aired, the series was pretty much fully standalone in nature, so a revival seems unlikely.
Despite that, #SaveAgentsOfSHIELD was trending on Twitter yesterday as eager fans look to get Marvel Studios' attention. The belief seems to be that it paid off with #ReleaseTheSnyderCut and #SaveDaredevil, though considering Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. received the ending the showrunners wanted after seven years on the air, we're not sure Coulson and company need saving.
There have been rumblings of a character from the show possibly appearing in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania with a new actor in the role. That might tell us all we need to know about the likelihood of the series coming back, but this could help ensure we see some familiar faces again.
Th return of Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) and Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), for example, would be no bad thing, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has previously played coy when asked if any of Coulson's team could resurface in the MCU one day now Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is over.
