Clark Gregg Discusses The Future Of S.H.I.E.L.D. And Who's In Charge Now

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s third season concluded with a head scratcher; after Lincoln sacrificed himself to help save the world from Hive, the series skipped ahead six months, showing the team now hunting a fugitive Daisy, and most surprsingly, Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) back to being an agent, no longer the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.  When asked by Entertainment Weekly if he knew who the new director is, Gregg said he was unsure. "I was not given a clear answer," Gregg said. "I don’t know that it’s been determined. I thought I was going to find out when I saw Civil War, but it’s not at all clear. It all depends when the glorious Nick Fury returns from the cold and the shadows. I suspect, in the wake of the Sokovia Accords and the end of Civil War, the people involved in choosing who the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be are other than in-house S.H.I.E.L.D. people. If I know my government bureaucracies, I have a feeling it will be someone somewhat less qualified than Coulson to run S.H.I.E.L.D."

When asked who he'd like to see in the role, Gregg was quick to propose the 'Cavalry' herself, Melinda May. "I'd love it if it was [May]," Gregg says. "That would be magnificent. She has earned that right and she is a commander that Coulson would absolutely follow with absolute loyalty."

Who do you think is the next Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Has Fury returned to his post, or do you want someone new? Sound off below!

Daisy is a jerk, kill her already, she's a fricking whining lunatic. She's selfish and dumb, this "6 month later" bullshit proves it....

@HappyHater - I agree. And I'm starting to feel that way about the actress herself as well lol.

@HappyHater - She was traumatized. What do you expect. Hydra probably made her do all sorts of depraved things, besides killing innocent people.

@Luminus - Seriously. People just like to b*tch about Daisy because Chloe Bennet speaks her mind. Get over it. Aside from her boring relationship with Lincoln, I didn't see many problems with Daisy this season.

@HappyHater - The whole show revolves around her. the first two seasons were primarily an origin story for Quake. I personally like her and think she has been an interesting character.

its Talbot.

Rewatch the scene with Phil, Talbot, May and Redcliffe.

Phil can clearly tell that Talbot is an authoritative figure. Calling it now.

@KillEmAll - I can see it being Talbot. in the last episode the president sent talbot to let coulson know that "it's time for SHIELD to come in from the cold"

@Goldboink - "From the darkness" but yep plus the look on Phils face when talbot is laying into Redcliffe.

Hopefully not May. I prefer either Fury or Hill assuming the role. Or maybe introduce Clay Quartermain.

The finale was a new low. It looked so cheap in the SFX my eyes were hurting. They have to step it up. Season 3 is may last attempt at staying hooked. This was cringe worthy.

I hope we get Maria Hill in this show, Colby Smulders is wasted in the MCU, she should be in charge of Coulson and his non SHIELD Shield team....

I'd like to see Maria Hill back in action but wouldn't hold my breath.

@FoxForce5 - Smulders should be open to a AOS full time gig, its not like she's doing HIMYM anymore and she doesn't seem to be in a lot of movies. She should do it for Maria Hill fans. Maria Hill is supposed to take over SHIELD when Fury disappears so it would make sense.

@slickrickdesigns - I hope they do use her, unfortunately, I can just see the bean counters going with someone who's a bit cheaper.
