Ahead of the upcoming premiere of Disney's Marvel Rising: Initiation, Marvel HQ has released a new video featurette highlighting Ghost-Spider (formerly known as Spider-Gwen). In the video, actress Dove Cameron, who voices Gwen Stacy, boasts about her character and what makes Ghost-Spider so badass.

"Gwen Stacy, Ghost-Spider, is a really strong female character. She represents someone who is strong-willed, who knows what they want and goes after what they want, is confident, and who's also goofy," describes Cameron.

"She's got the mental prowess of a detective," the actress adds, also commenting on the dilemma Gwen Stacy faces. Her father, Captain George Stacy, is not only head of the NYPD, but is also spearheading the manhunt to capture Ghost-Spider. "The person who has trained her to be as magnificent at what she does as she is, is the one person who can never know," Cameron explains.

Check out the featurette below to see more of Ghost-Spider in action ahead of the series premiere.

Gwen Stacy AKA Ghost-Spider, wrongly accused of a crime she didn’t commit, seeks justice and to clear her name. Unfortunately, her dad is not only Captain of the NYPD, but spearheading the manhunt! To make matters worse, other young heroes - Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake and Patriot are after Ghost Spider as well. But, as the chase to uncover the truth winds down— a darker threat looms along the horizon, and very soon, these heroes will need to put aside their differences and work together as a team.

Marvel Rising: Initiation premieres on Disney XD on August 13. The program will launch as a series of six, four-minute digital shorts that will ultimately lead into the feature-length animated film, Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, which will debut later this year.

Maybe it's me but something about the name Ghost-Spider doesn't feel right considering her powers are the exact same as Peter.
Ghost-Spider feels like it would fit Miles a lot better since he is the one with camouflage powers.

I don't understand why this character is supposedly popular. I don't know any comic readers who enjoy her. I suppose the costume is neato, but the plots and art were sloppy and convoluted. And her personality is nothing like classic Gwen Stacy. I wouldn't mind if the real Gwen survived and fought crime, but this alternate reality version is just a novelty that's overstayed her welcome. I hope they don't try cramming her into the live action universe.

@rabid - Well aren't we old and grumpy?
They won't be doing an MCU Spider-Gwen any time soon. They have her in this and in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse. If there is a live action Spider-Gwen it will be a solo Sony movie and it will likely be no good.

@rabid - It's weird. Spider-Gwen started as a gimmick to captive on how popular Emma Stone was as Gwen in the AMS movie. Yet that entire film series dead and forgotten.

I had the privilege of getting into the signing for this show at SDCC. Dove had a pretty long conversation with me while I was up there, her and Chloe Bennett were so nice! Even took pics with me, one of those things I'll never forget!

What is it with al these Gwen characters. Is this the sort of stuff people like now days. She seem to have her own version of every hero

@Pabs - It's because of The Amazing Spider-man movies. Emma Stone was incredibly popular as Gwen in those movies and Marvel decided to capitalize on that by creating Spider-Gwen.

I’m curious about the use of the name... is it something they’re going to do across all platforms, or did they need to use something different for this than for the Spiderverse film?

In any event, this show looks like it could be fun.

The animation looks to be an massive improvement from the current projects!! Hey, could you please sign these petitions to appoint Craig Kyle as Marvel Animation President and restore the Josh Keaton dubs of EMH?
