Episode two starts with a flashback to one year prior, revealing Thomas Shepherd (Ruaridh Mollica) in police custody undergoing a psychological evaluation and it's becoming increasingly clear that Tommy Maximoff’s consciousness somehow entered Tommy Shepherd's mind, leaving two souls co-inhabiting a single body.

Tommy is subsequently placed on a prisoner transport bus bound for St. Mabyn's Hospital, a notorious sanitarium where patients rarely leave. On the bus, he meets Lisa Molinari (Lauren Morais). Bonding over their rough upbringings, the two form an immediate friendship.

While aboard the bus, Tommy attempts to defend Lisa from an abusive guard and gets tased. The trauma triggers his latent superpowers, delivering a shock back to the guard. Seizing the opportunity, Lisa lifts the guard's keys, and Tommy uses his powers to open the doors, allowing them both to escape.

Back in present day, Vision (Paul Bettany) is still in standby mode, conferring with Ultron (James Spader) and his AI family about Tommy's reappearance. Vision suspects "Tommy" is a trap created by Ultron, but Ultron denies any involvement and challenges Vision's skepticism, asking if it is actually impossible for his son to be alive in a world as strange as theirs.

Researching Tommy's captor, they discover that Paladin (Todd Stashwick) comes from a long line of elite hunters who takes pride in tracking down any target, living or dead, under a righteous mantle. He isn't The Paladin, he's A Paladin.

Elsewhere, Paladin brings the recently captured Tommy to St. Mabyn's Hospital. They encounter the same abusive guard from Tommy's past, who has words with the two of them. Paladin ends up executing the guard on the spot.

Back at his hideout, Vision continues to review the footage of Tommy’s psychological evaluation. On screen, Tommy recounts memories of Westview and offers a rough, but accurate description of Vision, prompting Vision to pause playback.

Ultron deduces that Tommy somehow managed to survive the collapse of Westview. E.D.I.T.H. realizes Paladin was hired by an outside benefactor, but it's unclear who. Considering the circumstances, the team begin to suspect S.W.O.R.D. involvement.

As more footage from the psych evaluation plays, we see the confused Tommy speak fondly of Wanda, describing her eyes as filled with sadness, but he can feel her immense love and deep pain. He then utters a line Vision knows all too well: "Grief is just love persevering."

Vision and his AI team realize that Vision spoke those exact words to Wanda in private in Westview. There is no way Tommy could know that line unless his memories are real.

Armed with this realization, Vision agrees to meet Paladin at the bar. Having already simulated the conversation thousands of times, Vision remains unfazed by Paladin's psychological tactics, coldly claiming he does not care about the boy.

Paladin reveals how Tommy survived: as the Westview Hex collapsed, Wanda’s magic instinctively sent Tommy’s spirit across the globe into a troubled teenager in London. Paladin explains that a wealthy client is now paying a massive bounty for Vision, threatening that if Vision does not surrender, Tommy will be essentially lobotomized.

Vision stands his ground, asserting that he is no longer an Avenger and remains unbothered by Paladin's threats. Grabbing the hunter, Vision declares that he is not the Vision Paladin thinks he knows, before dropping him to the floor and walking out.

Following the botched negotiation, the Handler’s (Diane Morgan) firewall is breached by the mysterious Client. Infuriated by the setback, the Client threatens to terminate Paladin’s contract immediately.

Vision retreats to process his next move alongside Ultron. Struggling with his identity, Vision despairs that he cannot live up to the original Vision’s morality, faith, and humanity. Vision wants to feel like the old Vision, but he just can't.

Ultron invokes the philosopher’s paradox previously used against him, referencing the Ship of Theseus. He tells Vision that when a monster takes your son, you stop worrying about being the ship and start acting like the goddamn king.

Motivated to save Tommy, Vision prepares for battle. Confident that his vibranium body renders him nearly invulnerable to Paladin's arsenal, he prepares to infiltrate St. Mabyn's. J.A.R.V.I.S. (James D'Arcy) urges him to keep his emotions in check and rely on logic. As Vision departs, he passes a mural depicting Jim Hammond, the Original Human Torch, subtly referencing the world's first synthetic life form.

Vision arrives at St. Mabyn's, knowing he's likely walking into a trap. Upon entering, Vision pauses to analyze the environment and immediately clocks that the hospital employees are mercenaries in disguise.

The fake employees launch an assault, but Vision responds with lethal force to break through the security perimeter. Guided by J.A.R.V.I.S., Vision navigates the corridors until he reaches Tommy's cell. Vision finds a terrified Tommy inside, who initially believes Vision is an illusion. Vision assumes his human avatar to reassure the boy and breaks him out, but the entire holding cell is the actual trap.

An EMP cage activates, neutralizing Vision's vibranium abilities and threatening his internal mindscape. J.A.R.V.I.S. immediately initiates system reboot protocols. Meanwhile, Ultron passes the time reading, indifferent to the impending system collapse. However, the containment breach unexpectedly opens the door to his attic vault, offering him a way out.

Tommy tries to force the cage door open, but he still doesn't have control over his abilities. Together, Vision and Tommy manage to breach the door, only to be confronted by Paladin in full tactical armor.

Paladin opens fire with specialized Adamantium ammunition, which pierces Vision's vibranium frame. Vision gathers his remaining power to throw a devastating blow, knocking Paladin back through the way just as the mercenary empties his clip.

Weakened and in critical condition, Vision urges Tommy to flee while he can. The EMP and physical trauma have also placed J.A.R.V.I.S., E.D.I.T.H. (Emily Hampshire), and F.R.I.D.A.Y. (Orla Brady) in immediate danger of total destruction.

Tommy refuses to abandon Vision, demanding answers about his past. Vision insists that Tommy save himself as system failure becomes imminent. Within the collapsing mindscape, the AIs prepare for total shutdown as Ultron approaches them. Ultron observes that this is the moment for a noble self-sacrifice.

Recognizing the system needs power to survive, J.A.R.V.I.S. chooses to delete his own core code, rerouting his processing power to the rest of the network. His sacrifice saves Ultron, E.D.I.T.H., F.R.I.D.A.Y., D.U.M.E. (Henry Lewis) and U (Jonathan Sayer) while providing Vision's physical body with a crucial energy boost.

As Vision prepares to accept his end, Tommy returns driving a stolen vehicle, pulling Vision inside and speeding away from Paladin. While they speed away, we see Ultron in the vehicle with Vision and Tommy, meaning he can now roam freely within the mindscape!

In our review, we said, "VisionQuest is extraordinary—a brilliantly written and masterfully acted exploration of love, loss, family, grief, and change. It shows us what it means to feel, what it means to be human, and serves as an outstanding thematic capstone to this Wanda and Vision trilogy. Existing on its own terms—unburdened by its past in WandaVision or the franchise’s upcoming December showdown, Avengers: Doomsday—the series is about Vision and Vision alone, showcasing what makes this core Avenger one of the greatest to ever do it."

Marvel Television’s “VisionQuest,” an all-new original series coming exclusively to Disney+ October 14, concludes the epic trilogy that began with 2021’s groundbreaking, award-winning “WandaVision” and 2024’s acclaimed “Agatha All Along.” Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.
