Marvel Studios has released a new teaser for tonight's penultimate episode of VisionQuest, featuring a new look at J.I.M., aka the original Human Torch, Ebony Maw's blade, and a mysterious glowing figure who seems to be engaged in battle with Vision.
We also see Vision acquiring what appears to be the MCU's take on the Solar Gem. As a reminder, that was created by Professor Phineas Horton to power his robotic creation, Jim Hammond, and later powered Vision by absorbing, converting, and storing solar radiation to power his synthezoid body.
The Mind Stone took on that role in Avengers: Age of Ultron until it was torn from Vision's head by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War three years later. Could the Solar Gem—making its MCU debut here—be what restores White Vision to his former self?
The Wrap, meanwhile, has shared a piece on Marvel Television essentially going on hiatus until after Avengers: Secret Wars (Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 will be the show's last), revealing, "[VisionQuest is] seen as a success at the studio, and there is talk of seeing how some of these characters could continue in the MCU."
Zodiac, meanwhile, is being made with a "more modest budget" than other MCU TV shows, "with room for known characters and actors to appear in a supporting capacity" and "further seasons."
As one insider put it, "There might be some rewards for people who know the lore, but if you don't know the lore, you'll get a really satisfying story that maybe entices you to go back and watch some stories from the past as well."
In VisionQuest, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponise him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron.
His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision's son, reincarnated. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.
VisionQuest stars Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T'Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, with Emily Hampshire and James D'Arcy.
In our full season review, we concluded, "Paul Bettany and James Spader are masterful in VisionQuest, a staggering achievement by Marvel Studios and Terry Matalas that understands its characters, does right by them, and delivers one of the best MCU stories ever told."
Six episodes of VisionQuest are now streaming on Disney+.
