Laurence Fishburne first played Bill Foster in Ant-Man and The Wasp, and while he was something of an antagonist, the character ultimately wanted to help Ghost overcome the illness that was causing her to fade into nothingness.
The sequel's post-credits scene saw Scott Lang head into the Quantum Realm to retrieve the necessary materials to cure Ava Starr, but The Blip then happened, and he got stuck there (Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, and The Wasp, meanwhile, all faded into dust). As a result, we don't know what became of Ghost, though she is set to return in Thunderbolts next year.
As for Fishburne, he's confirmed (via Toonado.com) that he'll be back as Bill in What If...? season 2.
While he'll be playing a Variant of the character, the John Wick: Chapter 4 star also mentioned that Bill will get to suit up. "You know, Bill Foster shows up in 'What If…?' Yeah. Bill Foster shows up in 'What If…?' as Giant-Man actually. It's cool."
While Fishburne refers to the character as Giant-Man, reliable scooper @CanWeGetToast has since noted that he'll be playing Goliath (which obviously lines up with the comic books) in a 1980s-set episode.
Consider us intrigued!
Recently, there have been a lot of conflicting rumours about what's happening with What If...? season 2. While it's expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023 (merchandise for the show is already finding its way into stores), we've recently heard it could be pushed back into next year.
What If...?'s official landing page on Disney+ once listed the show as coming in "Early 2023," but that's now been changed to "Coming Soon."
