In Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse, Lex Luthor wields an ancient Kryptonian power and unites the world's supervillains to capture the DC Universe's heroes. With only the fan-favourite DC Super Hero Girls left to stop the Legion of Doom, the team must cross dimensions to rescue their fellow superheroes from the Phantom Zone, but a fortuitous wrong turn leads them to Titans Tower...where they find much-needed allies in the iconic Teen Titans!
We recently spoke to stars Kari Wahlgren (Zatanna, Star Sapphire) and Max Mittelman (Superman) about the movie, but had to take the opportunity to pick their brains on being part of the MCU.
Wahlgren provided a number of additional voices for What If...?, but also provided the voiceover for one of the more intriguing WandaVision commercials fans picked apart for clues. "It’s interesting because, with the shutdown, pretty much everything I have done for the past two and a half years has been from my home studio," she started. "Those were all recorded from my basement."
"It’s definitely a different experience from getting to go on to the studio lot or into a nice outside studio to record it, but they were still such great projects to be part of," Wahlgren continued, looking back at her brief stint in the MCU. "We were lucky to keep working during the whole shutdown. I can’t complain. The WandaVision one was really fun. I was so excited that made it into the show.
Mittelman, meanwhile, got to take over from Josh Dallas and Zachary Levi as Fandral in "What If... Thor Were an Only Child?" The Asgardian delivered some of the comedic episodes funniest lines, and we wondered if the actor would be interested in reprising the role in What If...? season 2.
"Yes! That was a lot of fun. I would love to play him against at some point. The secrecy was interesting. I only did one episode, so I didn’t really know too much about the show," the actor reveals. "It might have been one where I didn’t get to read the full script. They only sent me my lines. That’s always interesting because then you really rely on your director to give you the context needed to put the right intent into the line. Of course, in a heartbeat, I would play Fandral again."
"That was a blast. There were two comedic moments I got to play out and that’s always fun."
We'll bring you our full interviews with Kari and Max soon. Their roles in the MCU may have been minor in the grand scheme of things, but there's no denying that they both left a lasting impression. Those WandaVision commercials were big talking points, while you might be surprised by how much this take on Fandral took off on social media given the hero's limited live-action appearances.
Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse is available on Digital, Blu-ray & DVD on May 24. The movie event also premieres on Cartoon Network on May 28 and starts streaming on HBO Max beginning June 28!
