In the first trailer for What If?, we learned that one episode will follow T'Challa after he's taken into outer space by Yondu and the Ravagers. It seems this episode will revolve around the young Prince being picked up at Ego's request instead of Peter Quill, and that means the Wakandan hero becomes Star-Lord instead of Black Panther.
Now, The Illuminerdi has shared some details on how the character will be depicted in this animated series, and it sounds like T'Challa will have quite an impact on the Ravagers.
"T’Challa will not only take on the moniker of Star Lord," the site explains, "he will also be leading the Ravagers, who in this version are reformed criminals, on galactic adventures."
This sounds like a fun approach to T'Challa, and it's worth noting that What If? will also serve as Chadwick Boseman's final performance as this character. The actor recorded dialogue for the series before his tragic death following a lengthy battle with cancer, and we can't wait to see what he brought to the table for what looks set to be a very unique take on the beloved hero.
We don't know when Marvel Studios will share new footage from What If?, but with Loki establishing the MCU's version of the Multiverse, chances are we'll see something in the coming weeks.
A synopsis for the show was shared during last year's Disney Investor Day, revealing: "'What If…?' flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways."
"Coming to Disney+ in summer 2021, Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU," it continues, "featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. The series is directed by Bryan Andrews; Ashley Bradley is head writer."
What If? premieres on Disney+ this August.
