IT director Andy Muschietti previously expressed a desire to develop a new take on horror classic The Howling, and it looks like he's going to get his chance.

According to That Hashtag Show, the filmmaker will helm a remake of Joe Dante's 1981 werewolf movie, which was loosely based on a novel of the same name by Gary Brandner, for Netflix. No other details were provided, but Muchietti is expected to get working on the film when he wraps production on The Flash (more on that later) for Warner Bros.

The original starred Dee Wallace (ET, Cujo) as a woman who is sent to a mysterious colony by her therapist after a terrifying encounter with a serial killer, only to discover that some of the other patients get a little hairier when there's a full moon. The plot differed signifucantly from the book in many ways, so it'll be interesting to see if this new version will be a more direct adaptation.

How are things going on The Flash movie

@dracula - Uncharted was just delayed again because Tom Holland is shooting Spiderman 3 this year and Travis Knight hopped off because of that.

I'm pretty sure The Flash is in the same boat if Muschietti is moving onto Netflix. Maybe Ezra and WB is prioritizing Fantastic Beast's sequel instead?

I remember when the Howling came out and enjoyed it at the time. But why remake it when you can simply create an original and unique werewolf film that can stand on its own?

@lawndart - Because the opportunity to be faithful to the source material still exists.

@smgmayhem - oh but it won’t. It’ll be “reimagined “

@lawndart - if your going to make a werewolf movie that the idiots in the back row will scream “it’s a howling rip off” then simply title it HOWLING and score some extra box office off nostalgic horror fans.

Netflix is making better monster content than Universal. First Dracula and now this.

@E4Nigma - Still need to finish Ep 3 of Dracula. I know everyone says that's were it loses steam, but I like it so far. Also can Claes Bang be in more movies cause that guy is great as Dracula.

Werewolfs have always been my favorite supernatural characters ever since I was a kid and I love a good werewolf movie so I'm down for this. I had never seen the original the Howling until last Halloween and I was actually disappointed in it. I want to say it was a product of it times, but An American Werewolf in London came out the same year and it still holds up. I liked the very beginning when she was in the theater with the killer and the ending, but everything in the middle was just boring and predictable. I think there is alot that can be explored in a reboot (like a serial killer werewolf) of this so I look forward to it.
