"Ahsoka, within you will be everything I am. All the knowledge I possess. Just as I inherited knowledge from my Master and he from his. You're part of a legacy."
The fifth episode of Ahsoka debuted on Disney+ earlier this week, and it proved to be a massive treat for fans of the animated Star Wars universe, with flashbacks/visions of young Ahsoka Tano's time as Anakin Skywalker's Padawan during the events of The Clone Wars.
"Shadow Warrior" featured several memorable interactions between Ahsoka and her former master, but one moment, in particular, has stirred up quite a bit of debate online.
If you haven't watched the episode yet, spoilers follow.
After their little trip down memory lane, when Anakin becomes Darth Vader (sans the iconic armor) and attacks Tano, she is able to disarm him and hold his own lightsaber to his throat. At this point, we catch a red (with a hint of yellow) gleam in her eyes - the reflection of the saber, sure, but was it also hinting at a possible turn to the Dark Side for the fan-favorite Force-wielder?
Maybe - but Ahsoka has never been tempted by the Dark Side (as far as we know) before, so this scene is more likely to represent her decision to "choose life" by purging herself of the guilt she's always felt about being away from her master's side when he was turned. As we know, pain, suffering, anger all lead to a darker path, and Ahsoka must be aware of the power that ultimately corrupted Anakin in order to overcome it.
Her tossing of the lightsaber mirrors Luke's refusal to kill his father in Return of the Jedi, and is symbolic of her realization that she must be a batter teacher to Sabine Wren than Anakin was to her.
Here, Anakin - be he Force Ghost, Mortis God, or something else entirely - also appears to make peace with himself, finally teaching his pupil the last lesson she'll need to defeat her enemies.
But hey, maybe Dave Filoni really is planning to have Ahsoka swayed to join Grand Admiral Thrawn and his cause! We don't see it, but anything's possible.
