AHSOKA: Lucasfilm Releases Spoilery New Stills From First Two Episodes As Another REBELS Easter Egg Is Spotted

Lucasfilm has released a new batch of stills from the first two episodes of Ahsoka, while another big nod to Star Wars Rebels has been spotted elsewhere in those opening chapters. Read on for details...

Star Wars Rebels lasted for four seasons between 2014 - 2018 and introduced fans to the Ghost and its crew. When the series ended, the young Jedi, Ezra Bridger, had disappeared alongside Grand Admiral Thrawn and the quest to find them both is crucial to what we're seeing play out in Ahsoka

Sabine Wren clearly misses her friend and, prior to joining Ahsoka Tano on her quest, is shown living inside a communications tower on Lothal. However, as we first revealed on SFFGazette.com, a closer look reveals a heartbreaking Easter Egg that references one of her adventures with the missing Jedi.

As you can see below, she's held on to the painted Scout Trooper helmet Ezra once wore in battle.

It's a great nod to Star Wars Rebels and no doubt one of many nods to the animated series we'll see across the course of Dave Filoni's live-action follow-up. In the second episode, we even see Sabine don her familiar Mandalorian armour, so Ahsoka isn't shying away from linking this show up with its predecessor.

Lucasfilm has also released a huge gallery of stills from "Master and Apprentice" and "Toil and Trouble," focusing on Ahsoka's lead heroes and villains.

If you weren't already convinced that this series is essentially Star Wars Rebels season 5, then these should convince you. It's clear Filoni was heavily involved in designing the aesthetic of the show and that Loth-cat may give Grogu a run for his money in terms of sheer cuteness.

Take a closer look at these new Ahsoka stills below.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

In addition to Rosario Dawson in the title role, the series stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Ahsoka was written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa.

The first two episodes of Ahsoka are now streaming on Disney+.

Still likely won’t be reactivating D+ until X-Men 97 drops, but is this show enjoyable for people that haven’t watched the cartoons?

Please don’t recommend to me to do so. I don’t have time. I’ll watch them in a few years when my kid is old enough for them.

I just need to know if all that backstory is needed to enjoy this.

@mountainman - I think you probably will be able to. It’s not a complicated plot. But also hard to say from first two episodes. But you won’t get as much mileage from the characters as Ahsoka spends little time setting them up as it treats them as already established. It definitely is a more satisfying experience if you’ve watch the animated shows (rebels and Clone Wars).

@mountainman - It's not necessary. *Rebels Spoiler* ahead: All you need to know is that years ago their young jedi friend named Ezra helped them win a battle by 'sacrificing' himself by shooting off into hyperspace with Thrawn (with the help of some... space whales. So far, that's the only relevant thing you need to know from Rebels.

There is other missing backstory as well though, that occurred in the time gap between shows. So either way, whether you've seen rebels or not, you'll still have questions about the full backstory. Seems almost designed that way to put everyone on more even footing. Hopefully will be expanded upon for a reveal or something later on.

@mountainman - I think the show actually does a pretty good job of introducing preestablished characters in a way where you get the essence of their deal without having to watch rebels.

@MrDandy - OK. That tells me that it probably isn’t for me then. Maybe in the future if I get around to watching the animated shows, but I don’t want to miss a bunch of references and backstory.

Thanks.

RIP Bray Wyatt

Did anyone notice Sabine’s stance when she ignited Ezra’s lightsaber. He taught her that stance. I was like, she remembered it.

Well, The first episode was awful.

Completely boring dialogue.
The pacing was terrible and awkward.
Filoni filled screen time with awkwardly long and inappropriate pauses.
The use of The Void was far too obvious.
and the actresses brought no gravitas to any role.
Sabine is a horrible actor.

Ahsoka was far more interesting a character when written by Favreau for Mandalorian.

The pacing of these episodes are so plodding I am considering calling this Ahslowka

Overall I've enjoyed the episodes so far.
I did have one thought though... as Baylan was walking down the corridor, deflecting shots, all I could think was that the republic officers should have shot at his legs/feet.
