We have good and bad news for fans of Disney+'s acclaimed Star Wars animated series, The Bad Batch. During day 3 of Star Wars Celebration Europe, it was announced that the show will return for a third season... which will also be its last.

“I can say that the story's not over," the show's writer, Jennifer Corbett, confirmed during the panel. "The Bad Batch will be back for a third and final season."

Spoilers for the season 2 finale follow.

The second season of The Bad Batch concluded with the loss of one of the team, Tech, who sacrificed himself in order to allow the rest of the squad to escape. Though his death did appear to be pretty definitive, some fans are hopeful that he may have survived his fall.

Based on what was said during today's panel, though, we'd say Tech's days are well and truly numbered!

"I had no idea -- not even an inkling! -- that we were going to lose one of the Batch. And definitely not Tech!" Omega voice actor Michelle Ang said during the panel. "If anything, it felt like they were building Tech up to be the new primary relationship."

The remaining members of Clone Force 99 will return, and the brief teaser that screened at the panel (it hasn't been released online) revealed that The Mandalorian character Fennec Shand will be joining them.

Here's a description of the trailer via CBR.

"The brief trailer largely follows Hunter and Wrecker as they embark on a mission to rescue Omega from the clutches of The Emperor, who successfully captured her at the end of Season 2. The young clone is being held by Darth Sidious, who seemingly wishes to use her as a part of an evil cloning scheme that may be connected to his return in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. Beyond these darker elements, the video also featured several instances of action and several returning characters, including Clone Trooper Wolffe and Fennec Shand."

The Bad Batch season 3 hasn't been given a premiere date.

@0bstreperous -

The show is not good.

Unfortunately it never lived up to its potential.

The introduction to the Bad Batch in the Clone Wars was well done but the show itself is lifeless. The individuals within the Bad Batch seem one dimensional and the best episodes were the ones where they were barely in it.

They really needed to push the characters beyond "strong guy, smart guy, hunting guy" etc.

Crosshair is the exception. He's a more unique and conflicted character but he's on his own.

Shame but I understand canceling it.

@0bstreperous - Sorry you don’t like it but your opinion is wrong. The show, especially the 2nd season, is great. Sure there are some slow bits and some filler bits, but when it fires on all cylinders it’s exceptional.

I feel like this isn’t a bad thing. If it ran any longer, they’d have to really stretch out the pay off that we all want to see which is clone force 99 getting some sort of happy ending and normal life. I could definitely see them bringing back Omega in live action somewhere down the line.

This is the best choice imo. The show is alright, maybe not the best but also not the worst star wars tv series, but I think it lacks a purpose, and I don't mean setting up something in the bigger star wars universe but within its own story. Most of the episodes of season 2 were standalone in nature and it didn't feel like it was going anywhere, but with them having to find omega now I think they can wrap up the series in a satisfying way, avoiding the risk of dragging it on for too long

I only made it like halfway through Season 1, it just felt like it wasn’t going anywhere

@Ha1frican - highly recommend you give it another crack. It really hits its stride towards the end of the first season, and season two was mostly awesome.

This last season was a huge step up from the last season (which I felt was just fine). I really enjoyed season two and I’m glad they are getting to wrap things up after that cliff hanger.

Personally I like the series and hate that it will end after the 3rd season. Admittedly that may be a very wise choice to end after 3 seasons, but I was hoping for a 5 season arc. Hopefully it goes out on a very satisfying note.

As long as it's a satisfying ending which we all know what they are building towards for the series finale or episodes close to it. Clone uprising should be something special if done.

Really enjoying the show, the 2nd season was really good. A shame that we are only getting one more season of the show, but looking forward to seeing how everything wraps up.

Loved both seasons, would be great to see the characters in LIVE ACTION, either a show or a movie.... or another show's movie to feature the characters.
