Ahead of the show's premiere a little over a month from now, Disney+ and Lucasfilm have shared some new stills from Star Wars: The Acolyte. Highlighting the show's lead characters, they offer a better idea of what to expect from this trip into the Galaxy Far, Far Away's distant past.

Total Film (via SFFGazette.com) also sat down with showrunner Leslye Headland and learned more about her ambitious plans for a story which promises to take the Jedi Order to new and exciting places roughly 100 years before we first saw them in action in The Phantom Menace.

"The Acolyte is a mystery," she explains. "It’s similar to Russian Doll, which was really about giving the audience information episode by episode, this spiral of storytelling."

"This is a much larger landscape, but it similarly tackles the idea of, 'Your eyes can deceive you.' You’re going to think the show is one thing, but then it’s going to gearshift into something else, and then do it again."

As for how The Acolyte will respect the franchise's history (and Star Wars creator George Lucas' work), Headland adds, "It’s a show packed with everything I wanted to explore: I wanted EU [Expanded Universe] stuff in there, references to the original trilogy, The Phantom Menace, the Disney sequels...it’s absolutely packed. Because you never know, you may not get the chance again."

"[Cinematographer] Chris [Teague] and I talked a lot about honoring George Lucas’ camera moves," she continues. "I would say the original trilogy became our touchpoint for how to craft the world, while the Episode I-ness of the show is a bit more thematic."

Some of the stills below are brand new, while others were recently published in various magazines and are now presented without annoying watermarks.

In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems...

The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The Acolyte comes from creator and showrunner Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), who also serves as executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana are the co-executive producers, and Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producing.

The next Star Wars TV series will premiere on Disney+ on June 4.

The comments & stills sound & look good to me!!.

Headland seems to genuinely be passionate about the universe so hope it translates well on screen.

It’s been my most anticipated SW show for awhile so I’m looking forward to it…

I just hope we get a better trailer next time around since I didn’t love the teaser but it did its job in getting me intrigued.

So this takes place 100s of years before the prequels and they’re gonna have references to the prequel trilogy, the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy?

@AnthonyVonGeek - all the while ignoring the part where they mentioned the sith were thought by the jedi to be extinct for a millennium in the phantom menace.

But then again, they ignore continuity literally anytime it makes their stories unable to work conceptually. Like obi wan teaming up with Leia despite them never meeting or a rematch with vader that clearly didn't happen.

@AnthonyVonGeek - it’s set about 100 years from Episode 1. I think they will either show force powers we have seen in the sequel trilogy, or Snoke and his black ring might show up. Yoda is still around, he’s around 740 years old, or something like that.

Sounds like glass onion mixed with wandavision. In which case, hard pass.

I like that approach, but I can't tell from those still. Looks pretty generic, or atleast not like the OT honestly. Looks too clean I guess

Anyone think Carrie Anne Moss’s Master Indara character won’t be in the show much?.

The only evidence of that I have is a gut feeling and her not being in the promotional material much

I can see her being at the beginning which could be that fight , perhaps her murder is the inciting incident of the story and then we get flashbacks with her?

Take a look at the above gif , both her and Lee Jung Jae’s character (who seems like will be the main Jedi we follow) have different hairstyles then we see in the rest of the teaser which could add further credence to my flashbacks theory.

I can solve the mystery for you. Put a chick in it, make they/them/up/left/backwards gay. The hero will not be a white male.

I can't wait for this to come out. I love the press coming out saying KK has to be convinced to add woke to SW. The damage control machine already churning.

@AvalonX - Jesus christ put it back in the deck. You people are a joke. It'll be good or it won't. A female lead has no bearing on that unless you'll a woman hating incel.

Maybe screeching "Mary Sue" and "alphabet mafia" combined with your disgusting appearance and general oafishness is the reason you're alone.

@BaddestOptics - Sweet Baby is the death nail for games, just like woke is now for movies. You're a slow learner but you'll see.

Ironically enough, its the people they were pandering to that didn't show up...

@AvalonX - Sweet Baby is a handful of consultants that are the latest in a long line of boogeymen incel cucks like you picked out of a bag to be frightened of. I knew that one would get under your skirt ;)

Bad is good, good is bad. She's made it obvious since her and her cast's Celebration interviews. Straight outta the Johnson playbook.

HUR DURR WE HONOR GEORGE'S CAMERA ANGLES.

The real mystery is will men ever be back in any Disney movie as something other than inept goofballs and/or early demise victims?
